Wrestling Thread: Cena gets F5ed by Lessnar on WWE return

I know some of you will give us heat but this thread is designed for those of us who enjoy watching Professional wrestling.
  2. gribbzz SRMer

This should be in entertainment. It is not even close to being a sport.
  3. cmnelson1987 SRMer

It's fake, but it takes a hell of a lot of athletic ability. If the NBA is real basketball, this is a sport.
  4. Boda Moderator

Hey Rattler, who do you think the raw gm is?
  5. The Rattler SRMer

Will we ever find out? I was thinking maybe Steve Austin but he wouldn't hide behind a computer.. It could be JR..
  6. J-Pass The Producer

I was thinking Cole or Jericho.

We'll be drinking and watching Survivor Series this Sunday... let's hope Cena goes full-on heel and we won't have to hear any more corny jokes for a while.
  7. The Rattler SRMer

My next question was about John Cena.. Will he join forces with Nexus or will he find a loop hole?
  8. gribbzz SRMer

The NBA isn't fake no matter how many people think it is fixed.

What it takes is actors on steroids. Sure they do "Athletic" type stuff but its not like they are trying to do something where the other person is trying to not let them.
  9. wsu2023 SRMer

I honestly don't think they even know who it is yet. lol I think everyone wants it to be Steve Austin.
  10. cmnelson1987 SRMer

I didn't say it was fake or fixed. But it isn't basketball. Basketball has rules, and they are the same for everyone. NBA has their own rules that are applied differently depending on your status as a player.

Golf doesn't have anyone stopping a person from doing anything, and there isn't a whole lot of athletic ability. Gymnastics takes athletic ability, but nobody trying to stop you. Powerlifting/powerman competitions don't have anyone trying to stop you. Are those not sports?
  11. cmnelson1987 SRMer

And for the record, I'm not saying that WWE is a sport. But I disagree with the idea that it's not even close to a sport.
  12. The Rattler SRMer

I've been following wrestling since I was a kid.. I remember when Rowdy Roddy Piper beat Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka into a bloody pulp with a coconut and I've been watching ever since but at that time I thought it was real and I was watching the evening news for updates..

Wrestling does take a lot of athletic talent but in no way is it a sport.. It's a soap opera designed for kids and men in the 18-34 group but I never have acted my age and I'm not going to start now.

Just let us wrestling fans enjoy our one thread.. There's a WNBA THREAD, A thread about astromony, a thread about the outdoors..

I think we can have a thread about wrestling and still get along.
  13. gribbzz SRMer

Bad choice of words. They don't have anyone trying to beat them because its fake.

Your qualm with the nba doesn't make it not a sport.

And gymnastics is not a sport, its an artform.
  14. urbank SRMer

    Triple H
  15. The Rattler SRMer

    Hmmmmm???
  16. Brahmabull SRMer

I have always thought it was Austin but never thought about triple H. That makes sense.
  17. cmnelson1987 SRMer

Like I said, I'm not saying it is a sport. But, when I hear "not even close to a sport," that comes across as suggesting it doesn't take athletic ability and skill to do what they are doing. Maybe I am just taking your comment the wrong way. But I have a lot of respect for the athletic ability that the majority of the guys in the business have and display.
  18. Boda Moderator

I kind of think that Cena is gonna turn heel. A part of me also thinks that he is actually the leader of Nexus, because for a little while there, The announcers kept saying well I guess we know who the leader of Nexus is(referring to Wade Barrett). It just seemed a little fishy to me.

I could however see the Raw GM being JR, Cole, Austin(although I agree I dont think he'd hide behind a computer) or HHH. I hope its not HHH because I would like to see him come back as a wrestler, not really sure how serious his last injury was though so maybe thats not even possible. But I think they need to reveal who the GM is sometime soon, cause the computer is annoying.
  19. gribbzz SRMer

Yes they have a lot of athletic ability, doesn't change the fact I don't think it is even close to a sport. Wrestling is a sport, they took wrestling and made it into a fake soap opera. These people are wasting their athletic ability. Its good to see Brock Lesnar get away from it and go to the UFC where he can actually use his athletic ability.
  20. Str8KillinEm SRMer

Being a stuntman takes a hell of a lot of athletic ability, but I don't think anyone would view an action movie in the same category as a sport......would they?

Bring back Hacksaw Jim Duggan... 2X4 Commish.

I haven't watched wrestling in a long time, not since The Rock left. But for those of you that follow it, is he going to be making any appearances anytime soon? I had heard a rumor that he was going to come back and make a few appearances (but not wrestle, obviously) and if he does, I'll definitely want to check that out.

I did tune into Raw last spring to watch Shawn Michaels' retirement. But outside of checking that out and the wrestlers that are still left from the "attitude era," I think the talent sucks.
  23. TyKixx SRMer

I think there is a little more talent left than some might think. Problem is with the stupid brand shit it waters down 2 separate products instead of having all the wrestlers on one roster. It also doesn't help when Cena and Orton are basically holding everyone else back.

Anyway, a Cena heel turn would be awesome. I actually like the Nexus because they are just about the only aspect of the WWE anymore that is actually a bit unpredictable.

The GM stuff has gone on for way too long which leads me to believe that they actually started this process without knowing who the GM was going to be. I get the feeling they are just reserving that spot til the next big name decides he (or she) wants to return which will likely be HHH.

Maybe itll all come together with the Nexus-Cena angle, which could be good.

As far as the Rock goes, those types of rumors will probably always circulate. With that said, I have heard the same thing, but I imagine it would only be a return involving just like hosting an episode of Raw or something. Just a guess though.
  24. The Rattler SRMer

I've been watching TNA Impact that comes on Thursday nights on Spike TV. It reminds me a lot of the days of WCW.
  25. wsu2023 SRMer

I didn't even think about HHH. I could see it being him till he comes back just to show everyone how much he could control them even when not wrestling. They do need to let us in on it soon...the computer is getting over done and everyone will soon just stop caring.
  26. The Rattler SRMer

Thank GOD I didn't waste money to see that..

Edge and Kane battled to a double 3 count and Kane retains the title but Paul Bearer is still missing..

Randy Orton beat Wade Barrett and the ending had John Cena saying goodbye to the fans and that's how it ended.
  27. calibur SRMer

There are always rumors about The Rock making an appearance, it rarely happens.

Anyway, I think you should really give the current talent a shot - a lot of them have talent (Orton, Sheamus, Kofi, Alberto Del Rio*, Cody Rhodes, Jack Swagger, The Miz, etc). These guys can really put on a show. Please don't let nostalgia blind you.

However if you're looking for Attitude Era type entertainment, you're not going to find it.

*Del Rio has his own ring announcer introduce him. It's soooo friggin' funny, they have the horns blaring and the spanish announcer going crazy - reminds me of the Chappelle's Show skit.

Also... I really wish King Bookaaaaaaaah! would return. :(
  28. calibur SRMer

While it is staged, these guys have a ton of athletic ability to do the things they do and it takes a huge toll on their bodies. There are always guys out with torn ligaments or broken bones, etc.

I read on a wrestling forum that Triple H did an interview where he was asked about the general attitude about wrestling. He said something to the effect of, "you either get it or you don't".

It's like, we all know it's staged, but they get a lot of respect because there's no way to fake throwing a guy off the top of a steel cell and on to the announce table in front of an area full of people. Sure the table can be made of cheap wood, but it still sent Foley's teeth through his nose and put him in the hospital with various internal injuries. A lot of them still perform with separated shoulders that need surgery and things like that because the roster needs them due to other guys being out. The Undertaker was burned by his pyro (face and chest, he was literally on fire) and still did the Elimination Chamber match - without breaking character. There are tons of these stories. These guys are legit athletes, even if the roots of the show they put on is staged.

The rock rumor is he'll be making an appearance however, it is basically to promote his new movie. So it'll be a one night thing and I'm sure we'll see a rock bottom and the people's elbow on some heel.
  30. KMoney Administrator

I watched Survivor Series online today since i was at the Eagles game last night, and it was solid. I actually really liked the way the Cena thing ended. I like how he walked around the entire crowd hugging fans. I think he could be the Rock 2.0 where he got huge, did a few side movies while wrestling and this was his way out with some dignity so he can pursue an acting career.

I never really like him up until the past couple years where I saw how cool he was out of the wwe. He does a lot of charity stuff and those make a wish appearances. Truly a good guy so I liked him because of that.

If that was his curtain call I wish him all the best he'll go down as one of the greatest wwe wrestlers of all time.
