Brett Favre Injury Update: QB Likely Game-Time Decision With Tendinitis -- NFL FanHouse

The Minnesota Vikings have officially designated Brett Favre as questionable for Sunday's game against the Cowboys, and Vikings coach Brad Childress says the team probably won't decide whether Favre can play until he tests his ailing elbow during pregame warmups.

"It will be right up to then," Childress said after Friday's practice. "I can't look into a crystal ball and see how he wakes up tomorrow. He could wake up with the gout tomorrow morning."

Childress is right: You never know. Favre could wake up with the gout tomorrow. Or with smallpox. Or he could get bit by a rabid dog.

But I'll go ahead and say it now: Favre is playing on Sunday.

Favre hasn't missed a game since he became the Packers' starting quarterback in 1992, and he's not missing this game against the Cowboys, either. He didn't come back to the NFL this season so that he could sit out the first time his elbow started to hurt. Say what you will about Favre, but he didn't get to where he is by lacking in toughness.

Childress said Favre looked "OK," at practice on Friday. OK will be plenty good enough to make his 314th consecutive start on Sunday.
  2. robdog Administrator

Seriously, it is time for this guy to pack it in. TJack needs all the practice he can get.
  3. kevinwayne20 Banned

Minnesota isn't going to do that. They begged and pleaded to get this back. How is it going to look if the bench a guy that they just gave a raise to this off season when they actually had players on the roster that they weren't willing to give coin to?

Kind of funny. The franchise looked foolish by begging, pleading and paying more this guy and he is the reason they have fallen on their face this year.

He is going to play and like every other game this season he is going to hurt his team in doing so. The Vikings will not make the playoffs with Brett Favre as their starting QB.
  4. Bpow0407 SRMer

I would like for some reporter to research how often a "questionable" player actually plays... and how often probably and doubtful players play too.

Questionable is supposed to be a 50/50 shot... I'm guessing more than 50% of the time, the player plays. Probable is supposed to be 75/25... how often does a probable player actually sit? Definitely not 25% of the time!
  5. Bob SRMer

There is absoulutely no doubt he is playing! But, I also have to wonder I know that "SCRUB" TJACK needs reps as early as possible, but you know the Vikes are going down in flames if they have to with Favre. Does anyone actually think that TJACK would actually be able to come into this game with the Cowgirls and beat them? I don't think so! Brett at 60% is better than TJACK any day!
  6. Boda Moderator

Not only do I think TJack could beat the cowboys this sunday I think at this point TJack is the better option. However we really havent seen TJack in any real game situations in almost 2 yrs, spot duty doesnt count. Favre has been playing like shit, and sure he does some amazing things but it is my opinion that is TJack would have been playing to start the year we'd be undefeated right now.
  7. Bob SRMer

The problem is when do they decide that TJACK starts? After Favre says "NO MAS"! That's the only time. Unless he is just killing the team and can't make any throws. The next couple of games are no gimmes. So would you actually put TJACK in against those teams? That would be scary. By the way has anybody seen Bernard Berrian!
  8. Boda Moderator

The organization should have already made this decision. However we are in a win now mode, and Brett Favre is supposed to give us the best chance to achieve this, I just dont know if he does. obvioulsy you would believe that with the way Favre played last year he should give us the best chance. I just think last year was a fluke, and he kind of fell back down to earth this year. and this year he's freaking 41, thats just crazy, sure he still has some amazing plays left, but does he have enough of them. I dont think so, however I could be wrong. I do however strongly suggest we play TJack because if he cant succeed with Moss, Rice(if he returns) Harvin & AP then he probably never will be able to succeed at this level, and we still really dont know what we have in him.

As for Berrian, I seriously hope we try to trade him for either some CB help or OL help.
  9. Bob SRMer

You know that is all "Clueless" has to hang his hat on is TJACK! He drafted him and he has to live with him! He will go down in flames with him if he is still around. Crazy how Greg Lewis could be catching a ball late in the game and Bernard was nowhere to be found!

Brett Favre to Meet With NFL Security Over Jenn Sterger Allegations -- NFL FanHouse

MINNEAPOLIS -- Vikings quarterback Brett Favre will meet with an NFL security official here on Tuesday to discuss allegations that he made inappropriate advances and sent lewd text messages to TV host Jenn Sterger while both were employees of the New York Jets. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell told NBC on Saturday that there would be a meeting but that he would not personally attend it. Sports Illustrated and NBC's Peter King reported that the meeting would be with NFL security chief Milt Aldrich.

Favre has been under investigation by the league since allegations surfaced on Deadspin.com that he pursued Sterger and sent her inappropriate photos via text message while with the Jets in 2008. Should the league find Favre guilty of workplace sexual harassment, there's a chance he could be fined or even suspended. A suspension would end his NFL-record streak of 289 consecutive games played.

The NFL also has had discussions about interviewing Sterger, but so far she has not decided whether to cooperate in the investigation, according to a source

Questions with Bob Sansevere: Vikings tight end Jim Kleinsasser - TwinCities.com

Vikings tight end Jim Kleinsasser is not known for dazzling runs after making a catch. Frankly, the 12-year veteran is more known for falling down after a catch. But Sunday, on a crucial third-and-4 play from the Cowboys' 32-yard line, Kleinsasser made a short reception after Brett Favre recovered the dropped ball and rumbled 20 yards to the 12. A few plays later, Adrian Peterson scored to put the Vikings ahead 21-14. Asked what he thought about Kleinsasser's open-field cut to avoid tacklers, Vikings coach Brad Childress said "a cut would be a bold statement. In fact, it was kind of like an ooze. It was kind of like a change of direction slowly, like a semi." I asked Kleinsasser what he considered it.
BS: Was it a cut or an ooze?
JK: It definitely wasn't a cut. I kind of meandered to the left.
BS: Where does that play rank among your all-time best catch and runs?
JK: Being where I'm at in my career, it was pretty good. I'm the old guy playing now, so to get out there and get some yardage, it was a little more special.
BS: Have you been working on your open-field moves?
JK: No. I know my place in this offense.
BS: And what is your place?
    JK: Blocking.
BS: What's the biggest misconception about you — that you're not a dependable receiver?
JK: I'd like to think if I'm called on to catch a ball, I'm going to catch it and do my part. BS: You've been known to fall down after making a catch. Does that feed into the misconception?

JK: You know, so much effort goes into running to the point where I'm going to catch the ball that by the time I catch the ball my legs forget what's going on. (Laughs.)
BS: Do you think because you're such a dependable blocker, your pass receiving skills are overlooked?
JK: My blocking skills probably have kept my longevity and career where it is. We all lose the legs and running around, but being able to block and do stuff on the line have kept things open for me.
BS: When you came into the NFL, did you know you primarily would be a blocker? Or did you think you'd catch and block?
JK: I always had the feeling I could do both.
BS: At what point in your career did you realize you could last in the league if you could block?
JK: When (former coach Mike) Tice moved the fullback position out and we went H-back — basically tight end stuff. I was playing extensively and doing the blocking stuff. I felt right there this was probably my best gift.
BS: (Fellow tight end) Jeff Dugan has started playing as a fullback. Have you told the coaches you could do that, too?
JK: The lead-blocking part? No. My neck is short enough. That's some rough business in there.
BS: When you came into the league, did you think you would last this long?
JK: When I came in, eight years was like the golden number. Eight, that's a good career. Then you get to eight and you're like, "How about 10? That's double digits. It's a good number." After that, it's whatever you can hang onto.
BS: Is there a number now, or do you just keep showing up until they tell you to go away?
JK: (Offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell) Bev just asked me that. I'm like, "I'm just working on 12 right now." I'm not thinking about retiring. I'm not thinking past this year. I seriously am just thinking about right now.
BS: Are you one of those guys who says, "Once I get a Super Bowl ring, I'll retire?" JK: You never know. You always assess how you feel after the season. The body is feeling good.

Ray Edwards Fined $20,000 for Spearing Marion Barber -- NFL FanHouse

Although it has flown under the radar in a week when one NFL player was fined $75,000 and two others got $50,000 penalties, Vikings defensive end Ray Edwards has an awfully hefty fine to pay himself this week.

Tom Pelissero of 1500ESPN.com reported that the NFL fined Edwards $20,000 for spearing Cowboys running back Marion Barber during Sunday's game.

Edwards has now been fined $32,500 this season.

"Which is a lot of (expletive) money," Edwards said.

It is a lot of (expletive) money, but Edwards is a repeat offender who has illegally hit two different quarterbacks this season -- Seattle's Matt Hasselbeck and Detroit's Shaun Hill -- and has also gotten into a shoving match with Lions guard Rob Sims. He doesn't have a whole lot of room to complain.

But the Cowboys should be complaining about the fact that Edwards wasn't penalized on the play. NFL officials often miss even the most flagrant personal fouls, and they missed Edwards' spearing of Barber on Sunday. Unfortunately for Edwards, though, the league office didn't miss it.
  13. Ronin Sexual Tyrannosaurus

So! It was Edwards! HE is the reason for our 1-4 start! It was Edwards all along.

Randy Moss Fined $25,000 for Giving Silent Treatment to Media -- NFL FanHouse

Randy Moss has been fined $25,000 by the NFL for refusing to talk to the media for nearly three weeks following the Vikings' loss to the New York Jets on Oct. 11.

According to Tom Pelissero of 1500ESPN, Moss answered reporters' questions two days after that game, then did not address the media again until Thursday, when he briefly offered some thoughts on his pending Sunday return to New England to play the Patriots.

Judd Zulgad of theMinneapolis Star-Tribune reported that the league warned Moss prior to fining him.

Moss was traded on Oct. 7 from New England back to Minnesota, where he spent his first seven NFL seasons.

"I don't really have a feeling," Moss told the Boston Herald Thursday regarding his return engagement in Foxborough, Mass. "I'm just excited to be able to play football every week."

On Tuesday, the NFL fined Vikings head coach Brad Childress $35,000 for criticizing the officials following Sunday night's Minnesota loss at Green Bay

Brett Favre Practices, Listed as Questionable for Week 8 -- NFL FanHouse

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) -- Brett Favre's healing ability has been tested before. It's headed for another down-to-the-wire finish.

The latest will-he-or-won't-he drama in Favre's 20-year career continued Friday when Minnesota listed him as questionable for Sunday's game at New England. The Vikings will wait until the very end to answer the burning question whether their injured 41-year-old quarterback will play.

Favre was on the field for drills Friday, with limited participation in practice for the first time this week. He wore a wrap on his left ankle, which has two fractures that have threatened his NFL-record streak of 291 straight games started.

Coach Brad Childress said he "probably will" wait until the last hours before kickoff to decide. He didn't directly answer a question if he'll base the decision on Favre's recent rough performances or strictly on his health. Earlier this week, Childress said he won't consider the streak when he decides.
"Can he protect himself? And what gives us the best chance to win?" Childress said in response to a question about whether he wants Favre to start.

If he doesn't, Tarvaris Jackson will take over.

"I'm not losing any sleep over it. It will all sort itself out," Childress said.

Favre has both a stress fracture and an avulsion fracture in the foot, which was hurt in last Sunday's loss at Green Bay. He threw a few easy passes in warmups, but he didn't roll out or take any deep dropbacks while reporters were allowed to watch.

Childress said Favre took the field before the rest of the team Friday "so he could move around a little bit," and the coach said Favre's progress was "encouraging." Childress said he'll continue to be evaluated throughout the weekend.

Favre walked in and out of the locker room briefly Friday without speaking to reporters, but Thursday he said he "wouldn't put anything past me" in regard to being ready to play.

Childress was a little tense while he fielded questions about Favre's status Friday afternoon, keeping his answers short and snappy:

    • How would you assess his mobility?

"I'm not giving any scouting reports. Better than an iron deer on the lawn."

    • Was he wearing an orthotic in his shoe?

    "I'm not a podiatrist. I couldn't comment on that."

    • Will you have another conversation this weekend with him about how he's feeling?

"I'll speak with him, yeah, plenty. It's not like going to a confessional once a week, that I have to go to church to speak to him. He's in and around the building all the time. So the dialogue is generally ongoing. I know people view that as being called to the principal's office, when you sit in my office, but we had a pretty good conversation sitting right out here today for a long time."

    • What do you expect to see from him on Saturday?
"That he wakes up in the morning. Nothing's given, right? That he can get in here, and we'll see where he's at. That's my expectation. I don't have an expectation because I don't know. Everybody would like to know. I don't know."

As for Jackson, well, he said he's simply preparing like he's the starter. That's always the basic word from the backup in the NFL.

"You never really know. I don't know Brett's situation, how he feels personally, but if my number's called and if I'm the guy, I'm going to be ready to play," said Jackson, whose last start came in January 2009 in a playoff loss to Philadelphia.

Jackson claimed he couldn't tell much about Favre's condition from how he moved in practice, and wide receiver Percy Harvin pleaded the fifth, too, about whether Favre looked like be ready to go in 48 hours.

"You'd have to ask him that. ... But we're confident in whatever quarterback takes the snaps," Harvin said.

    Draft:

*Rd #1-QB-Jake Locker(Washington)-I believe that if Luck comes out both he & Mallett will be off the board. The Vikes need to address QB & just a year ago Locker was believed to be the sure fire #1 pick. He has his ups & downs, but with good coaching(Cowher) he should be just fine.

*Rd #2-SS-Mark Barron(Alabama)-Good hard hitting safety, with alot of athleticism

*Rd #3-FS-Blake Gideon(Texas)-Our Secondary needs tremendous help, especially our safeties.

*Rd #4-TE-Mike McNeil(Nebraska)-Can Learn for a couple years behind Shaincoe, then hopefully take over for him

*Rd #7-WR-Chris Matthews(Kentucky)Listed at 6'5" Matthews could be a nice red zone target.

WOW is that some wishful thinking right there. I don't think Bill Cowher will want anything to do with the Vikings. The organization is a complete and utter mess right now. Their last coach was the escape goat for a team that clearly quit on him. I don't think they will be able to lure Cowher from retirement unless they are offering him an insane amount of money.

That is an insane amount of money to be spent in one offseason. Greenway, Rice, Moss, Lawson, Thomas and Nicks will COST and they will cost a lot. Why all that money for Greenway, Lawson and Thomas who all play OLB? Do you think Cowher would bring the 3-4 defense, which would kill Allen's production? I don't think Lawson fits the Vikings current defensive scheme. Nicks is the Saints Best offensive lineman and could likely get a Hutch size contract. Lawson and Rice have already made it clear that they are looking for substantial size contracts.
  18. dolfan2004 SRMer

Wisniewski in round 2 is probably a pipe dream... I highly doubt he falls out of the 1st... look for him to go between 15-25. IMO, he is a better C prospect than Maurkise Pouncey was.
  19. Boda Moderator

It may be a pipe dream to get Cowher but honestly I believe he would be the coach to get it done. Although Frazier won yesterday, I just dont view him as a great H.C. although honestly he will probably be back next year. I dont think he made a lot of adjustments when he was D.C. and I dont know what would change now with him as H.C.

If somehow we did get Cowher I believe we would switch to the 3-4, sorry I didnt say that. I also am a big JA fan but if we switch to the 3-4 it may kill his production, but LB's are more crucial to the 3-4, and I honestly wouldnt be surprised to see the Vikes look to trade, or just flat out release him for the money he will be making. Also right now their is no cap, and Zygi has shown the ability to spend money and I dont expect that to change anytime soon.

Nicks may be the Saints best linemen but I have seen hundreds of mock drafts where the Saints let him walk, if that holds true or not, well time will tell, for my mock it did.

As for Rice, I believe he will be a RFA so the Vikings will be able to match any offer he gets, and although he may want a huge contract I dont think he will get what he's looking for from any team, the guy has been hurt in 3 of his 4 years in the League, maybe im wrong but I believe he will get a little bit bigger contract then the one Bess just signed, but im not a contract guru so idk.

Lawson well, I just dont see him getting a huge contract either from anyteam, although he has stated he wants one, I just dont see it happening, but again I could be wrong.

Although it is still very early I havent personally seen Wisniewski in round 1 in any legitimate mock draft, im not saying that he wont be picked in round 1 come draft time, its just right now I havent seen it. I also agree he is a better prospect then Pouncey was, but the draft is always a funny thing anything can happen.
  20. chicubie23 SRMer

Please , PLEASE draft locker so we can have more laughs at the Viqueens. Please. And Carl Nick's isn't going anywhere

and wishful thinking for a lockout year

And with a probable cap coming back, the viqueens couldn't afford all of this
  21. Boda Moderator

We will see, wont we. Oh and werent you one of the people who kept trying to tell me that Colt McCoy wouldnt cut it in the NFL, sounds like you dont know jack about QB prospects anyways

A cap may be coming back but I shed a lot of payroll off the team, from just Favre & Phat Pat, not to mention Berrian. Like I said Im not a cap specialist, I just know that the Vikings have one of if not the best cap managers in the buisness, im sure they could find a way to make it work
  22. kevinwayne20 Banned

Just because there is no cap doesn't mean teams are going to spend extravagently. If anything the opposite will happen. In the players you listed you are likely talking about 100 million in guaranteed money. Don't see that happening.
  23. TyKixx SRMer

    Cowher isn't coming here.

That free agent list is very much wishful thinking as well as a bit excessive and unneccessary.

    Mallett > Locker.

With all the resignings you only give Abdullah one year? He has been one of the brightest spots on our team this season.
  24. Boda Moderator

I understand posting a mock offseason im going to take some slack, it is a mock, things I wish would happen, are all the things likely to happen? Of coarse not, more just things i'd like to see happen, im not stupid enough to believe they all will happen.

As for the Abdullah only getting a one year deal, its because I just wanted him on the team for a year as an insurace policy as the two safety's I had us draft I hope will be the starters going forward.

I also am not a huge fan of Locker, but I do think we need a QB, im not that high on any of the QB's after Luck(if he declares, & Mallett) I believe Mallett will be gone before we pick, thats why I had us trading back and picking up the extra 3rd rounder.

Idealistically I'd love to get one of the two top corners, unless Luck happens to declare, I'd want the Vikes to trade up for one of these 3 players(Luck, Prince Amukamara or Patrick Peterson), just not sure how much more realistic it would be for us to trade up for one of the corners.

I believe we need more speed & coverage ability with our LB'ers and quite frankly i'd be more then happy with either one.

Moss was probably a little over kill, I get that, I just was looking for a good replacement for Berrian, a good #2, and since he still isnt re-signed and honestly I havent heard anything about them resigning(although I dont really follow Washington) I thought he'd be a good fit here and it would allow Percy to stay in the slot where he is more effective.

Herrera has probably been our best player on the Line so far this year, I think a upgrade is needed, maybe our line will bounce back if we can ditch the whole ZBS. Which would make Mt. McKinnie way more effective.

Anywho this was my first ever mock offseason ive done, and im sure it'll get better with my next one.

And like I already told Kevin, I agree that Cowher is more then likely not coming i'd just really love to see him as our coach.
  25. Bpow0407 SRMer

Favre isn't on the payroll for 2011, so you don't cut anything by not resigning him.
  26. Boda Moderator

Buddy that doesnt make any sense, he's making 20 mil this year, that payroll will not be with the team next year, how is that not saving 20mil towards the cap for next year?
  27. chicubie23 SRMer

C'mon now, theres a reason Jake Delhomme is once again the starting QB for the Browns. McCoy is terrible, and rode on a defense for a few games...oh and the Great White Hope Peyton Hillis
  28. kevinwayne20 Banned

Just heard an interview with him yesterday on Sirius's NFL Network. He said he plans on playing a couple more years.
  29. Boda Moderator

You're right there is a reason he's starting again and that would be Colt's hurt.

The (Injured) Colt Report: Send Me Seneca | WaitingForNextYear

The point of this is not to bring Jake Delhomme down, he is a nice guy and seemingly a great teammate, but at this point I don’t need to see him again. He is Derek Anderson. He can tease you with some great throws, but in the end, his maddening mistakes kill his team and their chances to win. Delhomme has started two game, both against teams that he is completely familiar with; his former team the Panthers and former divisional foe Tampa Bay. In both games, he made gigantic turnovers that changed the game. They lost in Tampa after leading 14-3 and heading in for another score, and lets be honest – they should have lost yesterday.
Bring me Seneca Wallace the rest of the way. His style fits more of the profile of what Eric Mangini and Brian Daboll want to do on offense. Not to mention, Mangini is still coaching for his job. A loss yesterday would have been a serious chink in his armor. That game was an easy win, only Delhomme made it harder.
What is a shame is that the rest of these games would have been so much more worthwhile if Colt McCoy were healthy. Sure, the Browns record isn’t great, but at least we’d be seeing the maturation of the QB of the future (yeah, I said it). Instead, we are stuck with Jake Delhomme and his back-foot-throw-interceptions.
If I’m Mangini, I start Seneca the rest of the way until Colt McCoy is healthy enough to return. For the love if everything – please, no more Jake.

Please Please Please quit talking out of your ass, and making shit up as you go, once again you prove you know nothing about football, but for my sake go ahead and keep talking your just making yourself look like a tool
  30. chicubie23 SRMer

And you're high off your ass if you think McCoy is anything better than decent. He still cant throw the ball down the field. He can use his legs, but McCoy will eventually be another Quinn. He is absolutely terrible.

And me know nothing about football? Pfffft. Im not sure what's worse: Wanting Jake Locker, Thinking McCoy is a good Quarterback, or Thinking the Vikings will make any of those moves.
