Time running out for Raiders' Curry to start opener

    Raiders coach Dennis Allen looks at the window for Aaron Curry to return to practice in time to start the season opener Sept. 10 and sees it closing.

    Allen said Sunday he isn't sure when the cutoff date will be for his projected starting weakside linebacker, who has missed all of training camp and recently spent a week in Los Angeles getting treatment on his injured knees. But he knows Curry "needs some work" before he sees the field in a game.

    Meanwhile, rookie Miles Burris continues to fill Curry's spot, and if there is a silver lining to Curry's lengthy absence, it's that the Granite Bay High School graduate has spent weeks practicing with the first-team defense while cramming to learn the playbook.
