Thole's flub at home plate caps lackluster loss to woeful Padres

    There was no concussion for Mets catcher Josh Thole this time — only the embarrassment of dropping the ball.

    Carlos Quentin lowered his body and dislodged the ball from Thole's glove in last night's seventh inning, leaving the Mets knocked silly in their 3-1 loss to the Padres at Petco Park.

    "The play at the plate, that's the ballgame," Thole said after the Mets had their two-game winning streak snapped. "It changes the whole dynamic of the game."

    Thole, who sustained a concussion earlier this season when Philadelphia's Ty Wigginton collided with him at the plate, said he was in the process of trying to cover the ball in his glove with his bare hand when Quentin drilled him and scored the go-ahead run.
