Running back James is mastering learning curve
Rookie running back LaMichael James is busy learning a new football language, a lexicon that includes this foreign phrase: "Ready, break!"
Yes, James, the 49ers' second-round draft pick, has had to get reacquainted with this thing called a huddle. At Oregon, the Ducks ran a lightning-quick, no-huddle attack, meaning that, until recently, James hadn't huddled up since his senior year at Liberty-Eylau High in Texarkana, Texas.
It's been part of James' steep learning curve as he makes the jump from college to the NFL.
"Looking at (the 49ers') playbook and thinking about my playbook was totally different," James said. "I've never seen anything so different in my life. It took me a second to adjust. It's starting to work out for me really well."
