I heard the idea of a sign and trade with Bynum. The team mentioned was the team I keep asking to trade with, the jazz, for Al Jefferson. But why in the hell would the Jazz do that? Al Jefferson is just as good, if not better than Bynum and will play more than half the games.

I think they just let Bynum walk and should go after Al straight up. Who else is a likely free agent this offseason?
  2. TyKixx SRMer

I didn't even think a double sign and trade was possible
  3. KMoney Administrator

As for the Free Agents for this upcoming season it was perfect timing. ESPN just released the top 30 potential free agents. Not going to paste the whole Insider article just the names.

    1. Dwight Howard - UFA
    2. Chris Paul - UFA
    3. Josh Smith - UFA
    4. Andrew Bynum - UFA
    5. Andre Iguodala - ETO
    6. David West - UFA
    7. Nikola Pekovic - RFA
    8. Al Jefferson - UFA
    9. Paul Millsap - UFA
    10. O.J. Mayo - Player Option
    11. Tyreke Evans - RFA
    12. Brandon Jennings RFA
    13. Jeff Teague - RFA
    14. Andrei Kirilenko - RFA
    15. J.J. Hickson - UFA
    16. Tiago Splitter - RFA
    17. J.J. Reddick - UFA
    18. Timofey Mozgov - RFA
    19. Tony Allen - UFA
    20. Monta Ellis - ETO
    21. Kevin Martin - UFA
    22. Manu Ginobili - UFA
    23. Darren Collison - RFA
    24. Corey Brewer - UFA
    25. Jarrett Jack - UFA
    26. J.R. Smith - Player Option
    27. Dorell Wright - UFA
    28. Kyle Korver - UFA
    29. Gary Neal - RFA
    30. Eric Maynor - RFA

I think Chris Paul should be #1 over Dwight and Kevin Martin should be higher, along with some other movements, but that's me.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Players I think stay with Current team:
Howard, Paul, Iguodala, Pekovic, Mayo, Jennings, Teague, Splitter, M. Ellis, Collison, Neal. Not saying the other won't stay, just think those are pretty good chances of staying. Didn't think Dwight would stay until recently with Kobe saying he may play another year or 2, maybe giving Dwight a reason to be the face of the lakers.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    As for the Sixers:
    • My gut tells me we get Josh Smith simply because I've heard his name in trade rumors for years to the sixers. I don't think it's a good fit simply because he and Thad are too similar. Don't get me wrong, Smith is nasty and a top defender, but like I said when I think of a comparison Thad is one of the first players to mind.
    • Obviously if Dwight Howard is available I'd like for them to try for him, but there is no chance he'd go to Philadelphia since most to every team will be bidding.
    • Al Jefferson will take highest contract offer and won't be like Dwight where he wants location &/or contender.
    • Defense fell off significantly since last year with Iguodala leaving. They could use a player like Tony Allen to come off the bench to help guard stars. Turner is a good defender, but we need a 2nd option especially for teams with 2 scorers. Corey Brewer is another option, but I think he stays with Denver.
    • They also need a scorer, Nick Young was supposed to be that guy, but he lacks consistency and a brain. I think J.R. Smith opts out of his contract and will land a larger one. He can score, but he is Nick Youngs older brother as far as scoring and Brains. He will likely get top 6th man money, a similar, probably higher contract than Jamal Crawford.
    • They also need a pure shooter, they have none. Bring back Kyle Korver! He's cheap and fans love him. Offensively great, just awful defensively as we know. J.J. Reddick would be a nice fit, but too expensive.
    • I think the sixers should resign Dorell Wright, he is a nice player off the bench. I think he goes elsewhere, along with Nick Young.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    2013-14 Roster:
    Jrue Holiday - 2017 FA
    Evan Turner - 2014 FA
    Thaddeus Young - 2016 FA
    Jason Richardson - 2015 FA
    Spencer Hawes - 2014 FA
    Kwame Brown - 2014 FA
    Arnett Moultrie - 2016 FA
    LaVoy Allen - 2014 FA

    Leaving:
    Justin Holiday
    Royal Ivery
    Damien Wilkins
    Charles Jenkings
    Nick Young
    Dorell Wright
    Andrew Bynum.
  4. Negrodamus SRMer

If we're looking for a scorer with a brain, I don't think JR Smith is the answer.
  5. KMoney Administrator

I agree I wasn't suggesting that if it came off that way. I was basically saying JR Smith is Nick Young just better. No way they go after him. I just mentioned him because he was one of those free agents.

I think we need a scorer, unless they think Jason Richardson can come back full strength and better. He's aging, but he played well before getting hurt. Once he went down the season pretty much fell apart.
  6. KMoney Administrator

Sixers are hoping Doug Collins quits? are you fucking kidding me? Yeah the sixers had a disappointing year, but anyone who expected them to improve without Bynum is a moron. They were an 8th in the east last year and they will finish 9th in the east this year.... I don't think that's worthy of putting the blame on the coach. That is without:

Andrew Bynum - I never thought he would make them a contender like many experts picked, but I did think he would improve them.

Jason Richardson - Played great while he actually played, once he went down the season was lost.

While losing players from last years roster for the two players who were both basically out the entire season:

Andre Iguodala - Their star player, and to me one of the more underrated defenders in the league. The sixers were a top defensive team with him, this year they are awful defensively.

Nikola Vucevic - Who has 30 and 20 last night and has been averaging something crazy like 26 and 17 over the past 7 games or so. I understand this is one of the reasons Collins is getting heat because he didn't play him, but nobody, absolutely nobody saw this coming. I expected him to be a nice first big man off the bench or possibly a mediocre starter type of player that's it. I didn't want to trade him at all, and that wasn't Doug's call, that was management.

Moe Harkless - Started off the year quiet, but now is a possible all rookie team player.

Not to forget losing First Round Picks. This season is far from Doug Collins fault, he was a top coach for back to back years, it's not his fault Management put together the team he had and the acquired players got hurt. Compare the current roster to last years, simple fact is it got worse.

Fuck Sixers Management. If Doug Collins does quit I'll be happy for him that he doesn't have to deal with shit like this.
  7. Negrodamus SRMer

It's probably because he's not content with letting the team suck and getting a better draft pick. I don't know, this organization is probably the hardest to get around.
  8. KMoney Administrator

They are stuck, they will continue to finish 7-10 in the east and get mediocre picks and stay there like they've been doing for years. They took a chance with Bynum and it failed. Clean the slate, and unless make a good signing this offseason they will be stuck.

I keep hearing Al Jefferson which would be great and move them up in the east for sure. I'd like to look around some more, but do not want Bynum back. Like I said before if Dwight doesn't stay in LA regardless of them have no chance of landing him I'd like them to put in an offer. This signing is going to be a huge tell of where the sixers should be for the next years.

With Thad, Jrue and Turner improving little by little every year a stud big man and a smaller SG/SF/PF signing could bump them to top 3-4 in the east.
  9. Negrodamus SRMer

Next year is the year to be shitty. That class is going to be obnoxiously good.
  10. TyKixx SRMer

Doug Collins, while a good coach, is a little over rated.

Sixers should sign no long term contracts and trade ET. A new coach & new identity wouldn't necessarily be too bad. Timing would seem as good as any. Start over w/ Jrue, TY, & whoever they draft. Everyone else is expendable.
  11. gco211 Moderator

I think this is basically their plan. They don't want Collins to quit because they think he's a bad coach, they want him to quit because they want a fresh start away from the Bynum nonsense and bring in a coach that will be good with new, young players.
    • Agree Agree x 1
  12. Negrodamus SRMer

What are we on, our fifth... sixth coach since Larry Brown? We've had more identities than any team should have to go through.
  13. J-Pass The Producer

    Agree with just about everybody.

Sixers need a new identity. It's unfortunate that this disaster of a season is likely going to cost Doug Collins his job. Although it also basically drove him to wanting to leave too.

I still see them looking to retain Bynum. I would be pretty surprised at this point, if they didn't re-sign him. I know Bynum hasn't made many friends, but the team is likely telling him to stay away at this point, as not to continue drawing attention to the situation.

Draft pick this year (without A LOT of luck) is going to suck. Likely gonna end up with another Arnett Moultrie.

Our best option is in free agency, and the team will look to add an impact player. I don't know who... but J.R. Smith makes the most sense.

I understand the desire to firesale, but that doesn't really happen too often in the NBA.

We've made a lot of mistakes. Trading Harkless & Vucevic was idiotic. I hated dealing Vucevic at the time, and I hate it even more now. We drafted Evan Turner over the likes of DeMarcus Cousins, Greg Monroe, Gordon Hayward, Paul George. It wasn't the strongest draft, but we definitely fucked that up.

I also think Collins is acting a little too hasty. He's not an old man... I don't get why he is being so impatient with the team this season. They're very bad, but they're not the worst team in the league. They lost an All-Star and 2 quality role-players. And gained 2 guys that were basically MIA all season. If there was ever a reason to call this year a scratch... that'd be it.

He's still the right coach for the players we have, and the team has potential at full capacity to make a run at the 3-8 seeds in the East.

Imagine if the team could potentially look like:
    Andrew Bynum / Spencer Hawes
    Thaddeus Young / Lavoy Allen
    Evan Turner / Jason Richardson
    J.R. Smith
    Jrue Holiday
  14. gco211 Moderator

You say that as though Larry Brown was recent. He was a full decade ago, and Collins has had a full three seasons, and he's never stayed anywhere long term.
  15. Negrodamus SRMer

And you say that like an average of 2 years per coach is normal. Collins has had three years, yes. And in two of those years he's been in the playoffs with one of them getting to the second round. Now we have this disaster of a year because we traded all of our good players for....... nothing.
  16. TyKixx SRMer

For a team that has largely been like 7-11 or so, I'd guess 2 years is fairly normal for the NBA.
  17. Negrodamus SRMer

Ok, but those teams are a reflection of poor front office moves. Some coaches definitely sucked (Eddie Jordan), but when you give a coach nothing to work with, it's kinda hard to succeed. It's arguable that the past two years we've had very little to work with. A bunch of role players who were overachieving. We haven't had a star in this town since Iverson.
  18. J-Pass The Producer

I knew we were gonna miss Iguodala when he left. Look at what he's done with the Nuggets.

He's the reason that team has been so lethal this season. Before him, they had a ton of good offensive players and depth... but with him there, he's been the glue guy that completely turned their defense around.

I think the Nuggets are going to win the West thanks to him.
  19. TyKixx SRMer

Jrue isn't an All Star with Igoudala in town.
  20. J-Pass The Producer

I don't know about that... Jrue just needed more time to develop (still does), and more opportunities to shoot the ball. At this moment in time, Iguodala is still the more valuable player between the 2.
  21. gco211 Moderator

Average is three years, so not far off. Collins isn't known for his ability to nurture nor long term viability. I like him more than it might seem, I just don't think he's a fit for our team at this point.
  22. TyKixx SRMer

Not for a team like the 6ers.

The second option on a meddling team does not have a breakout All Star season. Igoudala wasn't going to all of a sudden change his game after all these years. If he was still in Philly, he was going to do him.
  23. TyKixx SRMer

Collins backed into the playoffs in a weak conference and barely survived the Bulls backups. If Watson doesn't pass it to Asik, the 6ers probably blow that series. It was the first time Collins had been passed the first round in like 15-20 years or something absurd like that. He garnered a ton of good will when they got off to that great start a few years ago and even more when they took the C's to game 7. Some people were acting like he was the best thing short of Pop. Fact is, he is a good coach, but hasn't really done that much.
  24. Negrodamus SRMer

You can't dismiss his series against the Celtics and the Heat though. We had substantially less talent and we pushed them to the limit. I'm not saying that Collins is the answer, but forcing him out is pretty funny seeing that he's brought the most success since Iverson was running the show.
  25. Negrodamus SRMer

Iggy was the man before Jrue.. If a player like Iggy was to come into Philly now, its a different story. But when Iggy was here, he was the alpha dog and would not hand the reigns over to Holiday.
  26. TyKixx SRMer

I am not pushing him out the door. Just making the point that he garnered a shit ton of good will which clouded how many locals viewed him and over rated him as though he was some sort of elite coach.

What was so great about the Heat series?
  27. Negrodamus SRMer

I thought we pushed it a lot farther than we did. I guess I was wrong. I'm looking back on it now. Whoops.
  28. KMoney Administrator

I wouldn't call Collins Overrated really. I guess it really depends where you rank him. He's not a top 5, but he's likely top 10 as far as current coaches go. The problem is the way the sixers are treating him this year. He's done nothing wrong, the fans all like him, they are simply using him as their scapegoat for their disaster of a past year, which was the caused by one of the worst general managers in sports.
  29. TyKixx SRMer

I'm not convinced he is top 10. He is a relatively average to above average coach who has been coaching a long time.
  30. J-Pass The Producer

I get that... but I'm saying Iguodala > Holiday now. The team would still be better with Iguodala full force, and Holiday pre-breakout, then just with break out Holiday this season.

Down the road? Holidays the better investment, but I'm talking about what happened this year.
