He never received an offer from the Sixers, signed for $20 million less than Philly gave Brand, and signed with the Grizzlies. Like I said, or whatever exactly happened, but it definitely isn't as clear cut as "he chose Atlanta over Philly."

Let me put in my memory of how things went.

Josh Smith was a restricted free agent. We courted him knowing that Atlanta would most likely match anything we proposed. As gco said, I'm not sure we ever offered because we wanted to get Brand since he was a more guaranteed option and we didn't want to screw that up by making him look like our 2nd option.

If I remember correctly, they went all out on courting Josh. I think they had some kind of highlight video of him when he got there. Then again, I get most of my Sixers news on message boards so 90% of info I get could be bullshit.
  3. Negrodamus SRMer

And I dont think they would ask a kings ransom for him.... I mean, he is the one asking out.
  4. KMoney Administrator

I thought it was the other way around and Philly chose Brand over Smith?

Regardless they don't need Smith at all since they have Thad. Same type of player, Smith is a better defender Thad better on offense. Both are tweeners. If the sixers get anything they need a big body.

But I don't think they do anything because Hawes is coming back and Lavoy Allen has been amazing considering nobody expecting anything from him.

They are going to run into an issue in terms of minutes. Now that Turner is the starter he'll get more minutes leaving Meeks/Williams with less minutes. Most likely Meeks, who turns out to be really arrogant so will probably complain.

They really need to find a trade partner. It really makes so much sense. They are loaded with guards and need big men help. A package of Iguodala and Williams, Meeks or whoever else for an all star big man. I keep bringing up the jazz because I think they are in the same situation just they have a bunch of good big men.

Reality is the sixers stay as is.
  6. TyKixx SRMer

Iggy for Al in the summer makes total sense for both teams.
  7. bnbhard SRMer

Negative, I think Iggy and turner work great on the court together. They're going to amnesty brand and they will have some cap space and draft picks to make some moves to get more size.
  8. MeLLo SRMer

They're already over the cap so brand, nocioni, and letting hawes walk doesn't open up as much as you'd think. Besides, Game Changers like Dwight Howard & Derron Williams have no interest in coming here. Still stuck in purgatory despite the early season tease of 20-9 (or however they started). Unless a superstar finds their way outside of the lottery or they luck into the top pick and there's talent there (unlike Evan turner) this team is what it is. The Sixers are like the show lost - you saw them off the island this year & thought there was hope, but you were wrong. We'll be in purgatory for a few more lousy seasons until the team completely dies & lands the first overall pick.
  9. TyKixx SRMer

The 6ers are closer to Atlanta Hawks territory than you think.
  10. Small move, Sixers pick up Sam Young from the Griz for Ricky Sanchez to bolster the bench after moving Turner to the starting lineup. I like the move, but still need a big man badly though.
  11. KMoney Administrator

Sixers Waive Nocioni. Good move for both sides Nocioni deserves playing time, a team like the spurs would be a great fit. Maybe the lakers could look into it as well.
  12. Yeah I felt bad for him all year. He is a tough player and I like him, so I hope he does well again.
  13. bnbhard SRMer

This team has no heart or leadership. When everything is good they play as a team, when things are going bad they make it worse by playing individual ball. Man, this team has become frustrating.
  14. bnbhard SRMer

Oh, and apparently now they are turning on each other. Theres a fresh article where iggy basically calls out lou for being garbage defensively. I agree with what iggy says, but there is a place for that.
  15. J-Pass The Producer

I've had enough of Iguodala's mouth this season, I hope we deal him in the off-season. Gotta be something decent we can get in return for him.
  16. bnbhard SRMer

    Andrew bynum?
  17. J-Pass The Producer

Doubt they'd make that offer, but I'd do that in a heartbeat lol.

A couple of players I'd try to acquire for Iguodala:

    Josh Smith, ATL
Michael Beasley, MIN (not by himself, in a package, maybe add one of their C's)
    Danilo Gallinari, DEN

I'm sure there's other decent players available, those are all that's coming to mind right now for me.
  18. KMoney Administrator

I would no longer be a sixer fan if they trade Iguodala for Bynum straight up. Hopefully Kobe becomes more unhappy and wants to come home, well his American home.
  19. TyKixx SRMer

I've been saying forever. Igoudala has to go. It's not even personal so much as a pretty obvious scenario to me. It's a nice group, but if they don't do something they are going to be the next Hawks or baby Bulls. I'd also throw Utah in the mix as a trade partner possibility.
  20. KMoney Administrator

I think the lakers could absolutely use him. Maybe something involving Iggy and Gasol as a starting point.

Iggy is a great player especially on defense but I agree most to all sixers fans have been saying he needs to go since the departure of Iverson when Iggy became the "star".
  21. KMoney Administrator

At this point the sixers are probably going to miss the playoffs. The knicks and bucks are both playing much much better than the sixers. They are playing much much different than the beginning of the year.

I'm not sure if it has anything to do with iggy's ego, but if you look at the record before and after the announcement of the all star teams, they've been awful.
  22. TyKixx SRMer

6ers fans over value Iggy in trade scenarios too.
  23. KMoney Administrator

I don't really think it's over valuing him. It's always rumors what teams offer or what potential deal is rumored. It's always him and a player/picks for another all star depending on the player. He's one of the best forward defenders in the league. He's a great #2/#3 for a team he just can't be the star.

Do I think he's worth Gasol, hell no, but GM's always seem to love him and teams always seem to try to get him.
  24. TyKixx SRMer

He is a fringe All Star who scores like 12 points a game. Yes, I know there is more to the game than ppg, clearly. What I am saying is that the 'trade Iggy' talk has been near endless in Philly over the years. I feel like Philly fans scoff at some of the possible matches due to over valuing Iggy. You can't trade a 3rd option for a 1st option. For example, I think an Iggy for Al Jefferson swap would be realistic and ideal for both teams. Al would give them a legit low post threat who can help the half court offense and is more age appropriate than Brand. Now, inevitably, some high brow 6er fan will respond about how much more value Iggy could fetch. Which simply isn't true.

Josh Smith would seem ideal, but something about a Johnson-Igoudala pairing would seem like a turn off for Atl IMO.
  25. KMoney Administrator

I like Josh Smith, I just don't like the fit especially with Thad there. I'd like a Jefferson for Iggy trade. It really makes sense to trade him for a big man since they are talented at SG/SF. Plus Brand is up after the next year. I'm assuming they don't trade Iggy because that rumor is always a rumor and has been for years. I think they wait it out and just sign a big man when Brand is up keeping Jrue, Thad, Turner and Iggy together.

A guy I really want is Paul Millsap. I think he's a free agent after this season, not 100% sure on that though. I'd like to see Thad getting more SF minutes than PF which will happen if Iguodala actually goes.
  26. J-Pass The Producer

The Sixers just need talent... where-ever they can get it. This team is built to go... IMO, of all the teams that are "almost there", they're at the top of the list. If they had one bonafide star player, who could get them to the free-throw line at will and come up big in clutch situations, I think they'd (still) be a top team in the NBA.

I just don't know who that player is right now... or if we even have a legitimate chance at bringing him in. The Sixers need a leader, Iguodala is definitely, absolutely not that guy.
  27. MeLLo SRMer

I hope they miss the playoffs, get a lotto pick, and land Davis in true mega-millions fashion
  28. TyKixx SRMer

If Philly doesn't get aggressive they won't luck into that player. They'll wind up waiting around until all these guys of their own get paid and dry up all their resources. They are looking becoming the Hawks square in the face.
  29. KMoney Administrator

They really are just a star big man away from contending. If Pau is still available I'd like to see Iggy and whatever else minus Turner, Jrue, Thad and attempt to land him. Regardless this year and next I see the sixers basically in the same position because the team won't change much until Brands contract is up.
