He could not, even if he did escape the loss in the Yankees' 6-5 victory.
Dickey's numbers coming into the game bordered on staggering: a major league-best 11 victories, tied for second in ERA (2.00) in the majors, riding a career-best nine-game winning streak and his streak of 422/3 innings without allowing an earned run.
