You can't coach swag.
Evan Fournier strutted onto the NBA draft stage in Newark, N.J., on Thursday like it was behind a velvet rope — black suit, purple tie knot undone, a couple-day beard, seemingly grown to appear as if he hadn't paid it any attention.
The kid has swagger — 19 years old, 20th overall pick in the draft — to the point that the new Nugget, before the draft, told Grantland.com about the NBA, "It's never been a dream. Only a goal. I always knew I was going to make it."
But the big question: Will this confident (cocky?) Frenchman be with the Nuggets next season? But the reality is, the Nuggets already have 12 players under contract. Denver also hopes to re-sign Andre Miller and JaVale McGee. Though the team hasn't made a public decision, it appears that Fournier will play overseas next season.
"Our roster is pretty full and pretty full with young guys," said Nuggets executive Masai Ujiri. "Another thing that was attractive (with Fournier) was we wanted that flexibility a little bit, and get a very young player. He's 19 years old and really developing. We'll see how that goes."
