New York Yankees Thread

I saw today that Cano will not give the Yankees a hometown discount & thinks he's the best player on the team & should be paid accordingly. Good luck with that dumbass. If the Yankees aren't going to give you 25per for 6 or 7 years, who will? Boston? Nope - Pedroia. Philly? Nope - Utley will be a FA (and will likely have to go at a discount to an AL team), but they won't give out another big deal to a guy over 30.
  2. KMoney Administrator

I think hell get resigned before next offseason like 5 years 110 million
  3. KMoney Administrator

Yankees may sign Ichiro to a 2 year deal because he is approaching 3,000 hits (394 hits away) and they feel that would bring in more marketing money. Most likely from Japan. I don't mind a 2nd year at all, in fact I'd prefer 2 years over 1 or 3. He did well as a yankee and 1 years would likely be too long.

I would like for them to get Swisher back as well, but that's doubtful.
  4. MeLLo SRMer

I wanted the Phillies to sign Ichiro, but he wants to live in Manhattan
  5. KMoney Administrator

I don't blame him Seattle is great, but there really is nothing like NY. Going from a small Market to NY and a contender every year is a big difference for someone this late in their career.

Love Robertson I want them to lock him up long term as the replacement for Mo like the original plans were prior to Soriano, who is now a National. He's young and one of the players they need long term. Good guy off the field too always doing charity work.
  8. catman SRMer

Robertson sounds like a good guy. He does a nice job in the pen and should do OK as the closer.
  9. KMoney Administrator

Right now my opening day roster would be

    1. SS: Derek Jeter
    2. RF: Ichiro Suzuki
    3. 2B: Robinson Cano
    4. 1B: Mark Teixeira
    5. CF: Curtis Granderson
    6. 3B: Kevin Youkilis
    7. DH: Travis Hafner
    8. C: Francisco Cervelli
    9. LF: Brett Gardner

    OF: Matt Diaz
    SS: Eduardo Nunez
    SS: Jayson Nix
    C: Chris Stewart
    C: Austin Romine

    1. C.C. Sabathia
    2. Hiroki Kuroda
    3. Andy Pettitte
    4. Ivan Nova
    5. Phil Hughes

    David Robertson
    Mariano Rivera
    Boone Logan
    Joba Chamberlain
    David Phelps
    Shawn Kelley

    DL
    Alex Rodriguez
    Michael Pineda

    Future Call Ups:
    OF: Juan Rivera
    P: Davis Aardsma
    OF: Melky Mesa
    P: Brett Marshall

Bet ya Phil Hughes is your 2nd best starter this year. I think Melky Mesa sucks - old prospect w/ a six-plus k to bb ratio. Doubt he gives them anything this year. Zolio Almonte might give you more than Melky Mesa this year. He's a nice under the radar prospect. His avg would probably be a little low (like .240 range) jumping from AA, but I bet he could hit 20+ hr and maybe steal 10 bases in a full mlb season right now (which he almost certainly won't get).
  11. KMoney Administrator

Phil Hughes is already on the DL. Bulging discs in his back. He could eventually become a #2 if he could stay healthy. The rotation is solid 1-3 Nova and Hughes still are question marks to me.
  12. cmnelson1987 SRMer

I still have this gut feeling that the Yankees are going to be the team to beat in the AL this year if they don't suffer any more major injuries.
  13. KMoney Administrator

The yankees are always going to be a top team in the AL, but they must stay healthy to win the AL East. Same goes with Toronto I know everyone is picking them, and usually they are my sleeper team every year, but they are in the same boat as the yankees. They have a lot of players who get injured. Josh Johnson, Jose Reyes and Jose Bautista are all studs who get hurt.

The yankees didn't improve, but they really didn't get much worse. A Rod didn't play much last year and when he did he didn't help much, they only lost swisher which hurts, but he was hot and cold all the time. Gardner coming back is a huge untalked about boost.

Ichiro was awesome for the yankees whether haters acknowledge it or not is their issue. He batted like .350 with them and had huge hits late in the year.

This season relies on health and if Granderson and Teixeira can raise their BA and stop striking out.
  14. TyKixx SRMer

I think I might be closer to lumping Pettite in w/ Hughes & Nova (which isn't the worst thing in the world) than CC & Kuroda. Is he still going to have 30 starts in him?

You mentioned staying healthy, which is a given for any team, but more concerning for an older team like NY. I think, specifically, the Yanks will need to find some starting pitching depth... which they've done a good job of in recent history whether its been a veteran like Colon or a call up like Nova.
  15. catman SRMer

Curtis Granderson's injury won't help the Yankees get off to a good start. He'll be out until early May with a broken right forearm.
  16. KMoney Administrator

Pettitte came back after being retired and was awesome last year until the ball came back at him and broke his leg. He has been the most consistent pitcher for the yankees in the past decade. Rarely does he get absolutely lit up which happens to CC every like 5 games or so.

I think they'll be fine with pitching, but one pitcher probably 2 will go down, their top pitching prospect is out for the year and is only 21 and would probably get leap frogged (Manny Banuelos). But all the yankees prospects are outfielders and catchers.

They'll likely trade for one or bring back up (or move from bullpen not sure the plans for him yet) David Phelps who was serviceable.
  17. KMoney Administrator

    Pettitte throws a no hitter!..........

    Andy Pettitte's son that is.

Thought this was pretty cool, and there isn't much to talk about the yankees right now aside from Cano's potential contract.
  18. KMoney Administrator

    Great another injury.

Brian Cashman breaks his ankle skydiving.

  20. KMoney Administrator

I thought it was common knowledge that the entire yankee roster has been juicing for decades? (aside from Derek of course :))
  21. MeLLo SRMer

Haha did you see the top comment on that PED article?

  22. cmnelson1987 SRMer

Thought it was pretty cool how he said Andy helps him with the mental aspects of the game. A lot of dad's and coaches tend to push players to much physically, always trying to get them to work on their pitches, and ignore the mental aspect of the game. It's better to have good pitches and know how to use them than to have great pitches but not know how to use them.
  23. KMoney Administrator

Woo Hoo Chien-Ming Wang is back with the yankees! That injury killed him he was an All Star (or just missed the team) like 2 times, now he sinker just stopped sinking and he became absolutely garbage.
  24. KMoney Administrator

Yankees likely acquiring Vernon Wells. Angels will eat $34 Million of the $42 million on his contract, which doesn't sound correct. That must be an error. Regardless this quote was spot on:

  25. KMoney Administrator

Yankees release Juan Rivera. Matt Diaz already released. Lyle Overbay signs.
  26. KMoney Administrator

Robinson Cano fires Scott Boras, goooood.

New agent rumored to be............ Jay -Z???

Buster Olney "Jay Z is starting a sports rep agency, attached to CAA, and Robinson Cano will be its first client"
