Capitals' goaltender Braden Holtby became a breakout star of sorts after a stellar performance in the first round of the 2012 playoffs against the Boston Bruins. He earned the job partly due to injuries to Tomas Vokoun and Michal Neuvirth, but took advantage of the opportunity and made a good case for being the team's future starter in net.
Vokoun left in the offseason to join the Pittsburgh Penguins and it seemed to leave a logical order in the depth chart: Holtby the starter and Neuvirth his backup. Well, not only does Neuvirth want to compete for the job, he has something to say for his fellow teammate.
