The Minnesota Wild agreed to terms with Matt Kassian on a new contract on Thursday, June 28, bringing back the popular enforcer for the next two seasons.
Kassian will make $550,000 next season and $600,000 in 2013-14, landing the first one-way deal of his career after playing 26 games with the Wild in 2011-12. He scored two goals, playing a career-high 133 minutes and showing some flashes as a power forward in addition to his usual role, which saw him fight seven times last season.
Off the ice, Kassian has become a fan favorite with the wry sense of humor he has displayed on his Twitter account (@kassassination) and his blog.
The Wild announced the deal at the conclusion of their weeklong road trip through outstate Minnesota and North Dakota, during which Kassian danced with fans, climbed statues at the Spam museum in Austin and blogged about his exploits.
