Mike Leake looked a lot more like an ace than Matt Cain Friday night.

Leake pitched a complete game to beat Cain and the San Francisco Giants 5-1 before a crowd of 41,960 at AT&T Park. Leake did not allow a run until Pablo Sandoval homered with one out in the ninth.

Leake is 3-5 overall. But he's 3-0 with a 2.55 ERA over his last nine starts. Leake wasn't overpowering. He allowed nine hits, walked one and struck three.

"I was able to make a pitch when I needed to," Leake said.

He also went 2-for-4 with a home run.

"Leakie was pitching, fielding, hitting," Reds manager Dusty Baker said. "He was doing everything an athlete can. He's been throwing the ball well. I'm sure he wanted the shutout, but we'll take 5-1."

It was his first career complete game.

"I'm not huge for complete games," Leake said. "It was nice to get one finally. It couldn't have happen without the defense we had today and the early start."
