Brayden McNabb can count. He knows the number of defensemen above him on the Sabres depth chart is greater than the number of available roster spots.
But he's not letting that affect his mentality this summer as he prepares for training camp.
"I know I can play in the NHL and I believe in myself," McNabb said this week at Sabres development camp. "[The AHL] is not what I want. ... I'm going out still trying to prove myself and I'm going to work as hard as I can and do what I can to try to make this team."
McNabb is well-versed in how to respond to questions about the talent above him. He heard them last summer when the Sabres acquired Christian Ehrhoff and Robyn Regehr, and they'll continue as long as Tyler Myers, Jordan Leopold, Andrej Sekera, Alex Sulzer, Mike Weber and newcomer Adam Pardy are all there to compete with him for playing time.
"I control what I can control," McNabb said repeatedly this week, the same answer he gave when asked if he worries about the possibility of being traded.
