Shaun Marcum played catch for the first time this afternoon at Great American Ball Park since being shut down with a sore right elbow.
The results weren't too encouraging.
"Still sore," Marcum said shortly afterward. "Going to shut it down until it gets better, I guess. A little bit (better). Some of (the soreness) could have been 10 days without throwing, some of that stiffness and stuff in there.
"Hopefully it goes away and we'll be good to go."
Marcum has missed his last two starts after first reporting the soreness following his start June 14 in Kansas City, and was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Saturday.
It had been hoped that he'd be ready to go and rejoin the rotation at some point later this week. But in light of the current setback, things may well have changed.
"I have no idea of the timeline yet," Marcum said. "We'll have to sit down, I guess, and just go day by day until we figure it out. Until the soreness gets out."
