The Pirates' offense fizzled in the opener of this weekend's anticipated showdown against the Reds at Great American Ball Park, but don't expect the rivalry to cool anytime soon.
The Reds won, 3-0, in front of a sellout crowd that included Martin and Charlie Sheen, but before closer Aroldis Chapman recorded the final out, he hit Andrew McCutchen in the back of the shoulder with a 101 mph fastball. Many of the Pirates lingered in the dugout as the Reds congratulated one another on the field.
Despite cameras catching McCutchen's anger minutes earlier, the MVP candidate didn't want to talk about the ninth inning.
"If that's what you're going to ask, I'm just going to say no comment," said McCutchen, who was willing to talk about the rest of the game.
"They just happened to get the plays when they needed them. They happened to get the double-play when they needed it.
