Ahhhh lies. Are they not fragrant?

What was unemployment at when Obama took office? Answer: 7.8%. What is it now? 8.3%. If more unemployed people equals better, then you're right. Where I live however, that's what you call worse. I like how you cite a blog for your evidence as well.

Is /are the unemployment statistics linked to the economy?
    I would say no.
Looking at the DJIA I would say we are killing it...

Perhaps you need a clarification of what the "economy" is. From Dictionary.com:

the management of the resources of a community, country, etc., especially with a view to its productivity.
the prosperity or earnings of a place: Further inflation would endanger the national economy seriously.

The economy is much more than just the DJIA. The predominate economic indicator is considered to be the unemployment level. Our standard of living as a nation is in decline. Our economic growth rate is churning along at an abysmal 2%.

Here's a link to charts of how the US economy is doing based on what are considered "leading economic indicators." Notice the DJIA is not among them, but unemployment is there. http://online.wsj.com/mdc/public/page/2_3024-ecocharts.html

As you'll notice, since the "end" of the recession, manufacturing is down, industrial growth is down, rate of GDP growth is down, consumer spending, and housing is down. What's up? The trade deficit, consumer prices, and producer prices.

The real eye opener is comparing these numbers vs. 5 and 10 years ago.

While we're at it: http://news.yahoo.com/economic-recovery-weakest-since-world-war-ii-152031546--finance.html This report is actually from the AP, but cited from Yahoo.

Perhaps Factcheck.org is all of a sudden lying for the conservatives?

http://factcheck.org/2012/06/obamas-economic-sleight-of-hand/ A nice little excerpt for you:

The fact is, the economy has gained just about the same number of private-sector jobs (Obama’s preferred measure) in the 27 months since the most recent job slump hit bottom as it did in the 27 months following the bottom of the first Bush slump. And looking at total jobs — the broader and more customary measure — Bush’s post-slump job creation record was significantly better than Obama’s.
  7. gribbzz SRMer

The big difference is Obama's job slump was not due to him. Its tough to rebound from the worst recession since the depression yet in his term he has created positive job growth. In 8 years Bush had negative growth.

So you actually think the country's economy is getting worse because the recovery from a recession is slow? Do you know what positive GDP every year means? Growth!

If the country was going in the opposite directions I would be up in arms.

So the recession Bush inherited was due to Bush, but Obama's was due to Bush also? Did you bother to read either article?
  9. gribbzz SRMer

The bubble burst in Bush's face didn't create a recession that was compared to the great depression like the one Obama inherited. So comparing each recovery from them doesn't make any sense especially when the recovery was part of a bubble that was ignored from 2001 to 2006. While I understand there were democrats involved in that bubble Bush could have done more to stop the housing bubble that he knew about since 2001. He was too concerned with starting a bullshit war to avenge his daddy's failures.
  10. chevy706 SRMer

Comparing each recovery doesn't make sense? Who was the one that was making the comparison? OBAMA! "In Cleveland, President Barack Obama claimed he created more private-sector jobs in the past 27 months than President George W. Bush created"
  11. gribbzz SRMer

Obviously he is doing, he is running for president.
  12. chevy706 SRMer

So what you said is that what Obama is doing by comparing the two is nonsensical.
  13. gribbzz SRMer

Absolutely. It's a bit different then outright lying so he has that going for him.
