The Memphis Grizzlies improved to 2-1 at the 2012 NBA Summer League with a 97-79 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats (4-1) on Friday afternoon from UNLV's Thomas & Mack Center. The Grizzlies were led by a 32-point outing from Josh Selby.
Selby was perfect from the free throw line with a 7-for-7 performance, while connecting on 7-of-11 shots from behind the arc. In all, he shot 64 percent from the field with a 9-for-14 effort.
After playing to four ties and three lead changes in the first quarter, Memphis took control of the game behind a 28-10 showing in the game's second 10 minutes. The Grizzlies, who had a four-point lead wiped out at the end of the first, rattled off 12 straight points in the opening 2:49 to put some breathing room between themselves and the Bobcats. Eight of those 12 points came from Selby, including six off of two 3-pointers that began the scoring stretch.
The Grizzlies managed to extend their lead to 18 on two separate occasions with the last coming at the end of the half, 52-34. The third quarter began quite similar to the second with Memphis scoring at will. A Selby free throw capped a 12-4 run to open up the third quarter that put a 24-point differential between the two squads.
