Jon Lester did not win in five tries in July and he kept up that trend in his first start of August last night.
But there was a distinct lift to his voice after his eight-inning stint in the 5-0 loss to the Twins.
Just as he did last week in his no-decision against the Yankees, Lester is starting to work with an edge again. His pitches are sharp and while he spread out seven hits and allowed three runs, this was still a quality start for him — giving up seven hits and three earned runs, striking out seven while walking none.
