Hairston's right move may help Glenn

    The Buffalo Bills don't appear to be much closer today to determining their starting left tackle than they were when training camp began almost two weeks ago.

    A groin injury to starting right tackle Erik Pears is the source of the problem.

    With Pears being held out or severely limited in team reps for most of camp, that's forced the Bills to use Chris Hairston at times on the right side. That's resulted in more reps for rookie Cordy Glenn at left tackle.

    The Bills, though, had planned on rotating Hairston and Glenn with the starters as part of an open competition.

    "You hate that it's happened the way it's happened. We had to move Chris over to get some reps at right. If Erik Pears can't go, then we've got to find out who the best right tackle is, too," coach Chan Gailey said. "We've been trying to play the game back and forth. It's not exactly fair to Chris, but he's a good football player and he can adapt. We'll see how this works out. I think we'll get Erik Pears back next week and we can go back to the normal rotation that we've had."
