No matter how hard it had to be for Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen not to place Giancarlo Stanton into the lineup Thursday after he had four hits, including two home runs the night before, there was no hesitation.
Stanton is under medical orders to occasionally rest his surgically repaired right knee for the rest of the season, and a noon game following an evening game falls under those guidelines.
"You have to, you don't want to repeat it," Stanton said. "I just had surgery. I'm not going to play 50 games in a row. Play some, take it off, play some."
Stanton said he felt fine after undergoing knee surgery on July 8 to remove loose cartilage chips. He said he was able to regain his timing so quickly because he put the pitching machine at the highest mph possible.
