SportsDay columnist Rick Gosselin joined the Morning Rush on KTXX-FM in Austin on Friday to talk about the Cowboys. Here are some highlights:
On if Rob Ryan is an elite defensive coordinator:
He's been a coordinator in this league for nine years, and one time he's had a defense in the top 10. He had the third-ranked defense in Oakland one year, and every other time he's been 22nd or worse. If you give anybody great players, they can become a great coach. If you ask him to do more coaching than athleticism on the field will allow, you may have an issue. It still puzzles me. It's all about the pass rush and they have not improved the pass rush. DeMarcus Ware, he turns 30 this year. I don't seen how they closed the gap on the Eagles and Giants because of that. Both the Giants and Eagles will have better pass rushes. Four of the last six Super Bowl champions ranked in the top three in sacks. The Cowboys have to add to the pass rush and haven't done that. I don't see how they've closed the gap.
