Manager Dale Sveum confirmed Ian Stewart will undergo exploratory surgery on his left wrist sometime in the next week or so.
Stewart made an announcement about the procedure on Twitter early Monday morning.
Stewart is hitting .201 with five home runs and 17 RBIs in 179 at-bats. The wrist injury helped sap him of his power, which is a big part of his game, when healthy.
There's no timetable for Stewart's return, but he won't be back until late summer, if at all. Sveum said it's too early to know if he'll be the starting third baseman next year.
