Things have a way of going wrong for the White Sox at Kauffman Stadium.

So when things went bad before the first pitch of the rubber game of a series that opened an important 10-game road trip, Chris Sale found a way to make everything right.

Sale was not at his best five days after pitching on the same mound in the All-Star Game, allowing 10 hits in eight innings, but he scuffled his way through seven innings, sucked it up for one more and escaped in the eighth without his best stuff to carry the Sox to a 2-1 victory Sunday afternoon against the Kansas City Royals.
