Aaron Brooks doesn't mind maneuvering through crowds, and he knows crowds. He was among the NBA stars who signed contracts in China during the lockout a year ago and didn't reach for an eraser when the league resumed play on Christmas.
Instead, he remained with the Guandong Southern Tigers and quietly played to excellent reviews. His exceptional speed and quickness - elements hampered by an ankle injury the previous season - returned. His penetration and deep shooting helped his club reach the finals of the Chinese Basketball Association. And in what could separate Brooks from the Kings' other guards, his passing and playmaking improved.
"I played with guys who are Chinese legends," Brooks said Friday after his introductory news conference at the Kings' practice facility. "You have to get those guys involved. You have to manage egos out there, make sure they get the ball. Hopefully some of that translates over here."
