One week after his ugliest outing of the season, Erik Bedard pitched perhaps his best.
He painted the plate. He kept the ball low. He threw off-speed pitches that made hitters salivate -- and swing and miss.
Bedard led the Pirates to a 4-0 victory against the Arizona Diamondbacks Monday night at PNC Park, pitching seven scoreless innings to earn his sixth victory of the season. He allowed two hits and at one point retired 17 consecutive batters.
