The annual hand-wringing about the All-Star Game snubs is a lot like the annual Dick Vitale tirade after the NCAA Tournament field is selected. Every year, Dickie V. and his crew rant and rave about the 69th team that was left out of the field even though that 69th team has a .00000000005 percent chance of even making it to the Sweet Sixteen, much less winning it all. It just doesn't matter that much.
Same thing here. Of course it matters to Jackson. Of course it matters to Joaquin Benoit, who was also passed over. But in the grand scheme of things, it's a minor blip on the sports landscape that only gets amplified because this is a relatively slow time. (True, the NHL and NBA free agency periods are up and flying - but no actual games are going on other than in baseball. And Wimbledon. You see my point.)
