The Astros headed off for a five-game road trip (three in Pittsburgh, two in Philadelphia) with a 14-17 record.
A 6-3 homestand put the Astros two games ahead of where they were at the same point last season.
"It's a confidence booster," Astros manager Brad Mills said.
Though the Astros managed only seven runs in the final four games of the homestand, they nearly managed a split. They dropped the final game 5-3 in 12 innings.
"The team played great," pitcher Lucas Harrell said. "You can't say enough about how this team battles — really fighting hard, never giving up, playing to the last out."
