Arizona Diamondbacks select catcher Stryker Trahan with 26th overall pick in MLB draft

    The Diamondbacks added the up-the-middle position player they had hoped to land in the first round of Monday's draft, using the 26th overall pick on Louisiana high school catcher Stryker Trahan.

    In Trahan, the Diamondbacks believe they found a rare commodity, an athletic, offensive-minded catcher, though they acknowledged he has work to do to stick behind the plate.

    "With the bat profile where it is and the position he plays and the fact that he hits left-handed, it's a pretty good package," Diamondbacks scouting director Ray Montgomery said. "I'm very happy to get him at 26."

    The feeling was mutual.

    "I think it was the greatest feeling I ever had," Trahan said. "I was sitting there with all my family. I think I went deaf for a while because of how loud everybody got. It was amazing."
