Anthony Rizzo's Cubs arrival won't be in Arizona, Dale Sveum says

    With the Anthony Rizzo watch reaching new heights this weekend, Cubs manager Dale Sveum offered the only certainty about the top prospect's imminent promotion:

    ''Not here. It's not going to happen here,'' he said before the Cubs' 6-1 loss Friday to the Arizona Diamondbacks.

    In fact, the slugging first baseman was in Class AAA Iowa's lineup at Round Rock (Texas) on Friday night. He went 3-for-5, was a home run short of the cycle and drove in three runs (he has 62 RBI for the year) in Iowa's victory.

    Sveum was less emphatic about whether Rizzo would join the team during next week's homestand, as many expect.

    ''I don't know if there's a date on it,'' he said. ''It's obviously coming soon, but we don't have a date.''

    The Cubs open a six-game stand Monday against the New York Mets.

    Saturday is the first day the Cubs can promote Rizzo without risking him accumulating enough service time to become a free agent after the 2017 season instead of 2018, assuming he doesn't return to the minors after his recall.
