No sooner than Jhonny Peralta heard the cheers, he heard the groans.
Moments after he lashed a two-run single to right, giving the Tigers their first two runs of the night Saturday at Comerica Park, Peralta gambled that Nick Markakis' relay throw was headed for home plate.
It was instead cut off by first baseman Mark Reynolds. Caught between first and second, Peralta was tagged out, and there went the Tigers' eighth-inning shot at tying the Orioles in a game the Orioles an inning later had won, 3-2.
