    The life of a rookie: One day you are counting cheese puffs, the next you are picking up your first career win.

    While Saturday was supposed to be all about RHP Yu Darvish's second start, his fellow rookie, LHP Robbie Ross came in to bail him out of a sixth inning jam, retired lefty Justin Morneau and hung around long enough to qualify for his first major league win.

    A day earlier, Ross' chief task had been to count out the number of cheese puffs in a bulk-size bucket for a clubhouse pool. Ross counted out all 920 - happily. On Saturday, he showed off his moxie by coming into face Morneau, one of the league's best left-handed power hitters, with the bases loaded in a tie gam. On the second pitch, a 91 mph fastball, Morneau lifted a pop up to foul territory behind third base where Michael Young hauled it in to end the threat.

    "I went in there just trying to keep the ball down and not walk him," Ross said. "I give us no chance there with a walk. I'd like to strike him out, but a fly ball or ground ball is just as nice."
