Rep Power: 14 | | Admit it people of Texas, the great majority of you are just plain stupid. Houston store's decision to honor Muslim martyr causes misunderstanding 03:35 PM CDT on Thursday, September 17, 2009 By Shern-Min Chow HAWIN, Texas -- A Harwin shop owner has been dealing with outrage and threats after he posted a sign on the store window saying Perfume Planet was closed on September 11 to honor the martyr Iman Ali.
The sign generated a lot of bitter comments on the Internet and dozens of angry calls each day at the Harwin Central Mart.
Folks were shocked, believing the shop was honoring a 9/11 terrorist.
“When we came back today, I didn’t go back into the store,” said Luke Vizena, who saw the sign last week.
“I won’t do business with this store,” said his friend.
Internet traffic was much angrier. One wrote, “This is sickening!!! How long will it take for us to become a Muslim country?”
Another said, “I could not stay in the building it made me so sick.”
Store manager Imran Chunawala was stunned because the holiday had nothing to do with 9 /11.
Then he realized what happened. This year a key Ramadan Holiday happened to fall on 9/11.
“We did not explain enough in the sign because that is the exact same sign we put up every year on this particular day for this particular reason,” said Chunawala.
He apologized for the confusion and put up a new sign thoroughly explaining the martyr they were honoring died in 661 AD.
“1400 years ago. That was a long time ago,” said shopper Dolly Korenek. 11 News photo
Anti Defamation League Regional Director Martin B. Kominsky says this is a lesson for all of us.
“It’s just such a painful day for all of us. We have to be careful of our emotions,” Kominsky said.
“I feel ignorant now that I heard the rest of this story. I feel sorry that I made such a quick judgment. I really do,” said Vizena when he heard the whole story behind the sign.
Ramadan follows the ancient lunar calendar. Each year, the month long event and key days fall on different days on the Gregorian calendar. That’s the one used internationally for almost all business.
The ADL publishes a resource guide. It includes a calendar of events for all major religions for those who are interested.
Yeah I said stupid. Assume an insult first for you to be outraged by, rather than seek to understand. That is how they do it here. Texas is the home of the ignorant, racist, inbred, GOP fuck.

Rep Power: 27 | | I dont know, that would be like me celebrating a Japanese holiday in honor of a martyr on the same day in history as the Japanese bombing Pearl Harbor... I think it was an honest mistake by everyone and you could see why people jumped to conclusions.. Its not like everyone has a common knowledge of Islam and why things occur..
And let me also comment on how insanely unnecessary it was to phrase the sign that way. He could have just easily said "Close for Ramadan." Sounds like he is fishing for attention.
And I'm making myself clear here.. If i saw this sign on a window, i wouldnt give two shits about it. this is all an opinion about what i think the outrage is about.

Rep Power: 13 | | I'm with you. There are so many dumb people there. Not everyone of course but I think that they have more dumb people than a lot of states do. It could be a reason for that whole "we are bigger and better" motto they have going down there. Did you find this post awesome? Yes |

Rep Power: 32 | | Texans may be dumb, but I'd bet on any Texan who went on Jeopardy if he/she were up against two South Carolinians. And you could take the smartest two people in South Carolina and pit them against an average Texan, and it would still be close.
South Carolinians are so dumb they shouldn't be allowed to vote. Did you find this post awesome? Yes |

I doubt you'd think it was so funny if you did a little research. There's a clear pattern with the Distinguished Gentleman from S.C. Did you find this post awesome? Yes |

I like chicks with big tits and women with low self esteem.
I like the Dallas Cowboys and any politician that has the peoples interests above that of big business. I am anti war, pro choice and pro marijuana decriminalization. I aspire to be a rich bastard one day.
Oh, and yes I am a bigot. If that will make Living happy.
Fuck you Living, keep being you. I do want to come to your house and drink beer. Maybe then we can be buds...lol

Most of the people I have encountered make me wonder. But when people seem to be constantly on the lookout for that which will offend first, they show a whole new brand of intolerance. It's one thing to be ignorant. It's another to be totally lacking in intellectual curiosity. The Texas creed seems to be: I don't know, and I don't care that I don't know. Pass the complex carbs...

Rep Power: 14 | | It's in every state. Some states are worse than others, but I see 'dumb' shit for all walks of life. Texas just might have more of them.... As they say everything is big in Texas - which includes the stupid.
I see racist fucks in Colorado because I'm brown. And it has spiked a bit after this Zazi questioning/arrest. Though I have a feeling it would have been worse if I were in Texas and Zazi was there too....
But as Americans we like to judge first and ask questions later. And supposedly Texas is the essence of America.

Everyone I met in TX in person was nice. That said, a good majority of people who are my friends, happen to be from TX, and 90% of everyone I have met over the interwebz have been great. However, there are a ton of fuckos in every state....it just happens the further south you get, the more prevolent they are. Did you find this post awesome? Yes |

Rep Power: 17 | | Texans are cheaters,... at least they were in the Old SouthWest Conference.
(at one time, 7 of 9 teams were under NCAA investigation or on Probation. Rice & Arkansas were the exceptions)
Seriously, most Texans I know may be a bit prideful but are usually pretty good folks.

It's really the stares, etc.
Though recently I went looking at home to buy near Old Town Louisville. A 'neighbor' called the cops on my and my agent within 3 minutes.
