Default I know everyone has a Hard On for Ovechkin but....

I just need to point out a couple of things that have been bothering me after game 2.

#1. In the second period, Ovechkin drew a minor on Chris Kuniz for cross checking. This would be fine and dandy if it actually happened. Ovechkin flopped and SOLD the flop to the referee which didn't call it until he saw OV with his hand over his mouth. Even the commentators on the CBC feed were kinda confused. Greg Millen tried to downplay it and say that it was a good call, but CLEARLY if you look at that play he FLOPPED.

Now I know everyone has this hard on for Ovechkin, and he is an awesome player, but why the hell did he do that. I lost some respect for him yesterday after that play.

#2. On the 2nd goal, there was a BLANTENT non call by the referee's I don't remember the player but a Penguin player that was to cover OV was tripped...it was sooo clear. My theory is that everyone was sooo hyped about Ovechkin that the Referee's weren't even looking. Why do you think Ovechkin was wide open? It was a terrible non call which should have been called.

The refereeing in this game was bad....they missed the Kunitz hit to the head of Varlamov too....

anyways my two cents....

take it and go

he was wide open on the second goal cause the winger tied up his man on the faceoff...I mean, thats basic hockey. And you lost respect for him for a borderline dive to draw a call? Do you not watch Sid the Kid?

I'm pretty sure Ovechkin has extended the playoff beard theory to his lawn. I'm confident that it has not been cut since the beginning of the playoffs, and it looks pretty awful next to his neighbors. Generally it's pretty well kept.

I have no issue with the dive aside from those who critique Crosby for doing the same thing.

I kept hearing how Crosby does it and Ovechkin doesn't which is one of the reasons Ovechkin is the better player. Not true, as was clearly illustrated yesterday.

I also loved when he missed the hit on Malkin at center ice.

Anyways their goalie is their MVP, not Ovechkin.....

hahaha...yea, the goalie. Not the guy playing 25 minutes per game and scoring all the goals.

I don't have issue with people drawing penalties, as long as it doesn't get to the point of Avery when he was with the kings. I just hate that crosby complains so much to the refs each shift. I also find it funny that Malkin is MIA the first 2 games.

Does the goalie not play all 60 minutes and prevent goals from being made?

Your reasoning sounds silly, given the topic.

You don't think their goalie has been a HUGE reason they've won?

He has shut down some great opportunities by the Pens. Without him stopping some of those shots in the 1st and 2nd period Ovechkin doesn't even have a chance to score all those goals.

Not sure what game you were watching last night, but there were more than enough theatrics on both sides. I got quite tired of all of it. Note to everyone on both teams: stop acting like a bunch of Kansas City faggots and play some fucking hockey.

yeah the goalie plays 60 minutes but doesn't skate the length of the ice other than changing sides...come on, you can do better than that one.

Varlamov has been huge and may very well have been more valuable, but I doubt they'd be up 2-0 w/o Ovechkin.

What's frustrating to me is that there are legit penalties that don't get called like Kunitz's vicious cross-check to the back of Varlomov's head and an obvious elbow to Orpik's face.

But they'll call tickey-tac interference and cross checking penalties every three minutes against both teams? I don't get it.

Anyway...no excuses. The Pens need to wake the f up.

And I doubt Ovechkin's goals would have won the game if the goalie didn't play as well as he did.

Yea it seems like the refs can't stay straight on anything...they will call those stupid little penalties but then let other blatant ones go. It was getting almost comical the last part of the season plus playoffs how much they let Avery get destroyed every night, but any time he would do anything, they'd call him on it.

Brothers....look at the replay on his second goal....the caps winger tied up his man, and then released then had his stick between his legs to trip him. Check the replay...it was a CLEAR CUT penalty.

In terms of Sid the Kid....He does that crap all the time and I don't have respect for him because of it. I don't even think both these players are the best in the world. If you look at Pavel Datsyuk, I think he's the best player in the world, he does everything and not just score goals. I have more respect for him than those two..

COME ON BROTHERS....I can't believe what your saying....This series would not even come to fruition if it wasn't for Varlamov....They wouldn't be in this series if it wasn't for Fedorov....the guy that saved Ovechkin's ass in game 7.

I like Ovechkin and I liked the fact he plays hard every shift, but that flop isn't in the Character of Ovechkin, thats why I didn't like it and lost respect for him....he doesn't and shouldn't be that type of player.

How about the shot at Scuds head?

postgameheroes.com

Not to mention the knee to Gonchar, the slew foot to Malkin behind the goal last night...

I could go on and on.

The guy is a cheapshot artist. Where is this great defense? All I have seen is some cheap shots, charges that some how are called "big hits", and cherry picking. Oh and don't forget the bad turnovers resulting in breakouts the other way.

He has a great shot but that's about it.

wvette609 I know your upset with Ovechkin and I can understand your frustration with him....I think your opinion is a bit bias....I totally agree with you about a couple of things, but the Gonchar hit is a bit suspect to me.....Just because Ovechkin is such a hard nose player and wants to hit everyone. I'm sure that OV didn't want to take out his knee....and the way Gonchar stabbed at the puck reminded me of Steve Moore hitting Naslund way back when....Whenever your stab at or are weak on the puck, your more susceptable to hits, which is what Gonchar was when he was doing just that. Ovechkin has soo much speed and plays the game so fast that its like a split second where he has to either hit or move away and sometimes before he makes that decision its too late...

As for the slew foot yesterday I didn't see it but I did see his cherry picking in most of the games already....

As for the playoffs themselves, I'm starting to get a sour taste in my mouth with all these embellished hits and dives by players.....The NHL really needs to cut down on that. We've been a league where we have always prided the players as warriors.....Seeing all these dives and things makes me think they are actors and pussies....

You're right, I am emotional about the hit on Sarge. I just think it was typical Ovechkin. The guy plays wreckless and if he wasn't a "star" would be in the penalty box more and facing suspension for that play in particular (or at least a fine). It's only a matter of time until his wreckless play injures someone even more so than what he did to Gonchar. THEN maybe the league will do something about it.
