DENVER - Former Colorado Avalanche forward Peter Forsberg was back on the ice Tuesday morning with Team Modo in Sweden hoping to put his surgically repaired foot through an aggressive workout.
His return continues to fuel speculation that if all goes well with the recovery the 35-year old will try to sign with an NHL team.
Reports of a comeback began surfacing in December when Forsberg confirmed that he had undergone more surgery to repair his ailing right foot which has troubled him throughout his career.
But after practice today, Forsberg appeared cautious about the prospect of returning to the NHL.
"I can't say anything (about playing in the NHL) right now. I don't even know if I'm going to play," Forsberg said. "But I'm glad that the trade deadline is (March 4). I have some time to decide."
While it is not clear how soon or if a return is possible at this point, what is clear from the workout this morning, is his foot has not progressed as much as he would like.
"The foot didn't feel as good as I had hoped," Forsberg told the swedish media. "But I will be training here for two, three weeks and see how I feel."
If Forsberg is able to return, it would mark the second time he has had surgery on the injured foot in an effort to resume his career.
Forsberg was signed by the Avalanche after the first major surgery late last year for the teams playoff run.
A run that ended in the second round against the Detroit Red Wings.

..........
Go away Peter. Just call it quits. For your own good, but also for the betterment of the Avalanche organization. Not knowing whether you can or can't go for 18 games is not worth it this season.
