Ovechkin vs. Malkin

These two Russian superstars were the 1st and 2nd overall picks in the 2004 NHL draft. Everyone knows about Ovechkin, and now that Crosby is hurt, people will start recognizing how good Malkin is as well.

Malkin has been playing in Crosby's shadow, but this kid is sick. I'm convinced that if he were on a team where he was the feature player, we would talk about him the same way we talk about Ovechkin. They are extremely similar players.

Right now, we are about midway through the 2nd period. Malkin and Ovechkin have 2 goals each. Ovechkin also has an assist. They just keep going back and forth, and it's awesome.

The coolest part of the game so far came when Malkin was circling behind his net, and Ovechkin came flying in to lay a HUGE hit on him. We all know that Ovechkin hits like a truck, so it was looking like this was going to be ugly. Malkin so Ovechkin coming though at the last minute and he lowered his shoulder into Ovechkin right before contact was made. Malkin kept his balance and Ovechkin went flying sideways into the boards. That just shows the strength of Malkin.

Again guys, turn this on. It's really special to watch. I'll talk more about it in this thread later.

Watching Malkin shine is the one positive to come out of Sid being hurt. He is awesome.

I'm stuck in MI for work so I'm missing this game.

Malkin looked great against the Candians though and as you said I think we'll see him really step up while Crosby is out.

Caps win 6-5 in a shootout. Awesome game!

Malkin and Ovechkin had 2 goals and 1 assist each. They really put on a show.

On a rare day off from work when the Capitals actually play, I enjoyed the game. I'll have a review up in the Capitals thread shortly, but it was an enjoyable game. I really enjoyed watching Malkin, and both teams played well, even with all of the injured on both sides.

If the Penguins can keep Malkin around.......this is going to be a team that will compete year in and year out. Definitely was impressed by him, especially when he shrugged off that hit by Ovechkin.

Saw it on sportscenter I tihnk it was 35, malkin got ovechkin damn good.

everybody's gotta also remember that malkin was the second pick in the 04 draft right after ovechkin, so it was evident that this kid was gonna be unbelievable just like ovechkin.. people dont seem to think of it because malkin plays alongside sid the kid
