Vikings 2010 - SINDEY RICE SURGERY! Out 1/2 Season
Alright, I figured it was time to start an official 2006 Vikings thread. Everyone feel free to post legit Vikings news and what not here. By the way, did you hear Daunte might be getting traded?
So how do you guys really feel Venom i know listening to KFAN the fans sound pissed. But where do you guys go from here.Johnson obviously isn't the answer long term maybe no longer then this year who's next.Do you make a run a breesor as some rumors are speculating AJ Feely Maybe Brian Griese.Or do you try and get your future in this years draft.

To be honest, none of the FA QB's do a darn thing for me, and that includes Brees. Don't get me wrong, I like the guy and think he had the tools, but that's a pretty nasty injury to recover from on the throwing arm. All the other QB's are nothing but bit players and backups at best, something the Vikings already have in Johnson. I really wish the Vikings would find a way to steal Shaub away from the Falcons but I fear the Falcons faith in Vick is up in the air so that won't happen.
So I guess it comes down to the draft. We have a long road ahead of us, have to see who all we pick up with this great deal of money. Getting rid of Daunte really doesn't help the Vikings financially, it just gets rid of a player the new regime appartenly has no desire to work with. Who knows, mabe the Vikings try to move up in the draft and get the guy for the future, that is what Childress helped to do in Philly with McNabb.
It's kind of like my Air Force career, everything was hurry up and wait, and boy am I waiting.
i have always wanted culpepper to stay, and i would still like him to be our 06 starter, although its not looking good....obviously. i can live with johnson for a yr, i have always liked brees but other then that i dont see us getting cutler, leinert, or young after that im not the slightest bit itnerested in say a brodie croyle.
I think the Vikes should sign Edge James. If you don't have an elite QB at least you would have a RB to lean on. Plus James has played his home games on turf. He also is one hell of a blocker and that would help Johnson. However as a Bear fan I hope they stick with what they got.
No Culpepper deal yet - Vikings sign KROB, Chester Taylor visits today:

Vikings equipped to go after top talent
As the NFL awaited word Friday night on the future of quarterback Daunte Culpepper, the Vikings retained receiver Koren Robinson and made plans to play host to Baltimore running back Chester Taylor today.
Although they had not finalized a much-discussed trade of Culpepper when this edition of the Star Tribune went to press, the Vikings did agree to terms with Robinson on a three-year contract agent Alvin Keels said just before midnight. Terms were not immediately available, but the deal prevented Robinson from entering free agency when the market opened at 11:01 p.m.
As for Culpepper, owner Zygi Wilf acknowledged a day earlier that the team was in the midst of trade negotiations. The team has discussed Culpepper's availability with at least five teams: Oakland, Miami, Baltimore, New Orleans and the N.Y. Jets. But in a testament to the league's general state of confusion on the issue, reports surfaced throughout the day Friday that alternately ruled out each of those teams as possibilities or labeled them as the frontrunner.
At night's end, the Dolphins were perhaps the only team known to have maintained its interest. Even so, the Sun-Sentinel of South Florida reported in today's editions that Miami was contemplating whether to pursue Culpepper or free agent Drew Brees.
By all accounts, it seemed clear that Culpepper's days in Minnesota are numbered, one way or the other. Should they fail to consummate a trade, the Vikings probably will release their once-franchise quarterback.
If by trade, the Vikings were attempting to jettison him shortly after the start of free agency Friday night at 11:01 p.m. -- fulfilling his own request to depart, made earlier this week. Because of that quick timetable, Culpepper's surgically-repaired right knee and an increasingly public dispute, the most the Vikings were expected to receive via trade were one or more conditional draft picks.
Brad Johnson likely would be installed as the team's 2006 starter, and a backup quarterback would become a secondary priority in the team's free agency plan.
No team official was available Friday to comment on Culpepper or the impending start of free agency.
With an estimated $31.5 million in salary cap space, the Vikings appear to have prioritized three positions -- running back, offensive line and linebacker -- for high-profile signings.
Wilf has said that "money will not be an object to get myself a championship," and the Vikings are well-positioned to enhance themselves at all three of their priority positions:
• Running back. Several prominent players are available, including Indianapolis' Edgerrin James and Baltimore's Jamal Lewis. But Taylor's agent, Ken Sarnoff, confirmed that Taylor would visit the Vikings today. Taylor, 26, ran for 487 yards last season and 715 in 2004 while backing up Lewis.
• Offensive line: The team will have at least one new starting guard this season, and it could choose from two Pro Bowlers who are available: Seattle's Steve Hutchinson and New Orleans' guard/center LeCharles Bentley.
• Linebacker: The Vikings need at least two new starters, and they have been linked extensively to San Diego outside linebacker Ben Leber. The agent for LaVar Arrington, Carl Poston, said the Vikings were one of 12-14 teams who have called to express interest but did not set up a visit. Arrington met Friday with Miami officials and also has a visit planned with the N.Y. Giants.
Carolina's Will Witherspoon is a strong fit for their cover-2 scheme, as is San Francisco's Julian Peterson.
Note
• The Vikings have not completed restructuring efforts on the contracts of offensive line Matt Birk or tackle Mike Rosenthal, according to agent Joe Linta, who represents both players.
Staff Writer Mark Craig contributed to this report.
I say we sign Taylor. He is young and as much as I like Edge I think he would cost too much. Great we came to terms with K-Rob. I also so make a strong push for the OL - Hutc, or Bently. And, then a stronger push for Witherspoon. He is young also and didn't sustain an injury like Peterson. I think for now Johnson will be ok - we need to address this for the future. I don't think a guy like Brees would come here if he is not the starter. And, we already know Brad Johnson's position on starting. We have the $$$$ so let's not sit on the sidelines while all the FA are going by us!
I heard a rumor of Culpepper being traded to the Rams for Bulger and a mid-round pick. As a Rams fan, I really hope this does not happen.
Isnt that a steal for the Vikings?
That's why he said "As a Rams fan, I really hope this does not happen."
What about Billy Volek. If the Titans take a QB at #3, they could probably be looking to move Volek, who has shown he can play in the league.
Think of it this way, would you want Billy Volek leading the Packers? Yeah, I didn't think so. Like I said, none of these QB's impress me, same could be said for potential FA's, that's my biggest fear now.

Venom, I don't think Brad Johnson is all that terrible for this style of offense. Obviously he isn't the long tern answer but if you just look at it for this year and with all the money you have to spend in FA, your team is in good shape. Childress will figure out the QB situation for the future but for now Johnson is great for the style of West Coast offense Childress runs. I wouldn't get all worried if i were you.
alright you all here is my take on the culpepper situation...we retain him this year unless we can trade him for Randy Moss straight up...or a top 10 pick...both of the 2 will more then likely not happen..so we tell him to shut up and get healthy...play a year for us..and hope he returns to form...that way he raises his stock and we can get a lot better deal for him...and we tell him if he complies he will be outta here next year..if not we pull a TO with him and sit him...and keep sitting him...basically he is in no position to tell us what to do..since we have him under contract till what 2013? But dont get me wrong cause i have been supporting Daunte from day 1 who ever gets him..imo is getting one hella football player

Culpepper = T.O. = end to all team chemestry and a huge headache if you kept him...... see 2005 Eagles for reference

If we didn't have Rodgers, I wouldn't mind going after Volek as the QB of the future. If he was given a chance, he could be a good QB in this league.
To be honest. I only care about getting good value for Pep. I won't judge Pep as a man, because he is doing it, what he is doing for a reason and nobody really knows whats going on except him and the organization. Papers print anything that will sell, so I don't believe what they say when they talk about a player, or give a player a certain image. So on the business side of it, I cannot comment on what is going on between him and the organization. But I don't care about Pep as a football player. He has what it takes to be great, and I wish him the best. But as a Vikings fan I will never root for Pep again. I say that because he is the one who got Moss traded, and I think that was the worst mistake that the organization has ever made, even more than Hershal Walker. Pep really fu@ked up this team by getting Moss traded, so as of his career like I said I wish him the best, but if it isn't peaches and cream from here on out, I wouldn't have one bit of sympathy for him. With that being said I think that we should wait until we can maybe get a team to bite and get the best offer for him, and I think that that is what the organization is doing. Just waiting for the right offer, or for a team to budge on the deal. Hopefully we will get better than something than a third.
