Broncos Broncos Magic Carpet Ride Over?

A handful of weeks into the season found a few teams "undefeated" and left many wondering who was for real. For a while there, the Saints, Broncos, Colts, and Vikings were all undefeated. After week nine, we are down to two and the Broncos are left with a two game losing streak. The Vikings, who suffered their only loss in Pittsburgh (a game they had a chance to win in the final drive), rebounded nicely by pulling off a win in Green Bay, followed by their bye week.

So now the question comes up again, are the Broncos for real, or are the last couple of games a dose of reality for a team that started hot and is incapable of shaking off a loss or two? One thing's for sure, Kyle Orton is not the second coming of Elway. Bears fans can attest to this - witnessing glimmers of greatness a couple of games in an row only to be let down, watching the legendary neck beard look lost at times.

Just a couple of weeks ago the Chargers where left for dead, sitting three games back in the AFC West. Just a short couple of weeks later finds the rejuvenated Bolts a mere one game back.

I just wonder how many Bronco fans are still on the bandwagon after the unexpected start. How long before the snowballs fly towards Orton, calling for his head (quick - who is Orton's backup.....anyone!!??). The second half of the season is here and with the slate of games ahead (@Bal, Pit, SD, NYG, @Ind, @Phil), I don't see the magic carpet returning and expect reality to hit the young McDaniels hard and make him realize just how fortunate his team was in the first six weeks.

1. Lol I dunno when the Magic Carpet Ride was supposed to end Steppenwolf , but I sure as hell didn't expect them to go 16-0. Hell, I expected 6 wins total. I can guarantee 9 now, that we have to play the Chefs 2x and the Raiders una mas, not to mention the ez win they should get against the Skins this week.

2. Every team is gonna struggle at some point, and it looks like the bye week really pissed in their gastank. Let's not take a thing away from BAL or PIT by any means. BAL was on a 4 game bender, and needed that to save their season...for one week anyway lol. The Steelers were kinda in the same boat, as they are both looking up at CIN.

3. Orton has a huge problem. LOOKING AT WHO HE'S GONNA THROW TO FROM THE TIME HE LEAVES THE HUDDLE UNTIL THE BALL LEAVES HIS HAND FOR SAID RECEIVER. Seriously, dude, look a motherfucker off! He is a UFA at year's end, and I don't see him back.

4. Chris Simms. Tom Brandstater. I expect the latter to be the starter next season.

5. Anything the Broncos do this year will be a win to me. They turned over almost their whole franchise, including but not limited to 7-8 new starters on D, a new scheme on both sides, front office personell, coaches, all the way down man.

6. The defense is still good, and I expect it to be solid for the rest of the year, providing our own offense can help out by keepin them off the field.

Totally understand that you've got nothing to look down on. As pointed out, they've made a ton of changes and this defense took everyone off guard. My only issue with them is Orton. As a Vikings fan, we've known for far too long that no matter how good the team is around the QB, without the right guy behind center it just never comes together all the way. Jackson always showed a glimmer, but in the end just never had the tools mentally and for what ever reason could NEVER to a fricking three, four, five step drop, PLANT his feet, and throw! Favre is proving on the Vikings what a capable QB can do.

So it's all on Orton the rest of the way and being a fan in NFC North and seeing him play enough, I feel for ya down the stretch.

By the way, are you the Bronco fan formerly known as ElwayisGod, cause I swear it's you, and hope it is.

Orton's back up is Chris Simms and some youngling like Tom Hemminberger or something like that. I do not think the Broncs play BAL and PIT again - they can't - I think you meant the SD onward in your list.

Orton would have looked better the last 2 weeks but for Moreno trying to kill him. Bronco fans and Woody Paige should send me a thank you that I can hand deliver to James Harrison for attempting revenge on Orton's behalf by trying to behead Moreno. Trust me, there will be a substantial fine for that one, right or wrong. Looked about as bad as when Henne got popped right under the face mask against NE...

Correct, I should not have included the two games they already played.

So the question is, do the Chargers have what it takes to over take the lead in this division?

I am hoping the ride is over considering I am a Chargers fan! Orton just had a terrible game. I am sure they will try to fix some things during their bye week.

I used to be fiveminutemajor...just on all the other boards, including the one I co-own, I go by MookStunna lol.

I am not by any means a D.O.O. (defender of orton)

I really liked what I saw out of Brandstater in the limited time he's played...dude can throw a deep ball.

I see exactly what SuperBowl talent can do when it gets a QB too....(think AD is happy too?)

I think the Broncos will beat SD when they come here in two weeks, and the point will be moot.

10-6 or 11-5 I can see them finishing at..because....

@ Wash, WIN

Home SD, WIN

Home NYG, WIN or LOSS (not a tie)

@ KC, WIN

@ Indy, LOSS

Home Oakland, WIN

@ Philly, LOSS

Home KC, WIN

I know, who the hell did they beat with a winning record besides NE and CIN?

We can only play whose on the schedule!

Ah damn, that's right, now I remember and have been reading some threads with you thinking "I know this is someone I know".

The big game obviously is when you play the Chargers again. Take care of that one and take charge of the Division again - the other two teams are not even worthy of mentioning.

I never thought that they would play as well as they have. And, never ever thought Orton would play that well either after being exiled from the north. That first win was a lucky one, but they have played well - I don't see them beating a Pittsburgh or Colts away from home. They better get that running game going again or they are done. If you have to rely on Orton - Good night!!!!

I feel like Denver could make it into the playoffs still. They still have games against Washington, KC, and another with Oakland I believe, so there're plenty of opportunities to right the ship.

This isn't a bad team. I don't think they are as good as their start indicated, but they do play fast on defense, and Josh McDaniels knows how to get his receivers open.

The lack of a running game is going to bite them in the ass down the stretch.

I wouldn't sleep on Washington, they have the talent to pull an upset at home. The SD game will be huge and the game at KC might be their Super Bowl. The point is...some of those W's have a good possibility of becoming L's.

Oh an BTW, yall beat Dallas - which has a winning record.

Denver's defense make them for real... they were not going to have 6 game stretches where they allowed only 10 2nd half points, all year... they have 4 games in which they should win easily, IMO (KC x2, Oakland, Washington)... On top of that, what happened last night was rare... Orton is 18-3 at home, I believe... with that in mind I see them beating either SD or the G-men... plus, you know that defense will play it's heart out for Dawkins in Philly... this team will get 11-12 wins, IMO... I say 11-5 and win the West.

And San Diego... they are not the product of a cupcake schedule, with the exception of Cleveland and Oakland, they have played nothing but good football teams, and are 4-2 against them.

Not wanting to quote one Denny Green, but Orton is who I thought he was mostly from his days in Chicago. I saw flashes of brilliance, but after the brain trusts in the tape room figured out what he liked to do in Denver's scheme, they would solve him pretty quick. Granted, the Steeler's have an excellent defense and he won't see that kind of pressure every week. But as the info comes in, things will get worse. And if you can't play the big boys close at home, come play off time the wheels will come off pretty quickly. Right now, if the playoffs started tomorrow, they would play the Steelers or the Colts on the road after a first round bye. Not a good look.

Everyone likes to see the team on top get taken down a notch. Plus the panic button is used by 99% of fans way before it is needed.

Broncos fans have a long time till the next game, so pushing the panic button is the only viable option to pass the time.

It's stupid if you ask me. The Nuggets, and Avs both are doing good, and instead of just brushing the losses off, and moving on, they are calling (some) for McDaniels' head, and wishing we still had Cutler here.

Just pisses me off the major 4 teams here seem to be on the come, and nobody can just enjoy it.

You don't want Cutler, right now that guy would be bitching about EVERYTHING and ANYTHING. All the while, throwing everyone under the bus to pass the blame for throw 3-4 picks in a game.

You guys are MUCH better off without Cutler and you will see it in the draft picks you get next year.
