1. (1) Colts (5-0)
They head into their bye week, but not before destroying the once dangerous Titans. Peyton manning threw for over 300 yards again, 3 touchdowns again and continues to turn wide receivers into big time players. The defense continues to look like one of the best in the league. After their bye they’ll be even healthier, which is a scary thought.
2. (2) Saints (4-0)
After a nice week off, they’ll be facing one of the other remaining undefeated teams. We’ll see if Drew Brees will start to throw some more touchdowns after being somewhat disappointing the past couple games. They’ll be playing in the game of the week and will be big if they want a first round bye.
3. (3) Giants (5-0)
Regardless of the fact that they played the raiders; that was still an impressive win. The raiders defense isn’t that bad and they completely dismantled that defense, even the backups had a field day. They’ll be facing the Saints who were playing great and are coming off their bye week. The winner of this game will be considered the top team in the NFC.
4. (4) Vikings (5-0)
Favre has a quarterback rating of 104 and has only thrown 2 interceptions through 5 games. Those are impressive numbers for anyone let alone a 40 year old. Jared Allen recovered 2 fumbles and continues to write his resume for defensive player of the year. They’ll face the toughest opponent that they’ll face maybe all year against the ravens and will be a test for both the offense and the defense.
5. (7) Eagles (3-1)
Jeremy Maclin had his coming out party against the bucs. He showed that Donovan McNabb has received the extra weapon which he was asking for. The offensive line is finally getting on the same page which can turn out to be dangerous if they give McNabb the time he’ll need. They locked down the run and picked off the bucs 3 times. Regardless how bad the bucs are, that was a big win just to have McNabb and Westbrook back on the field playing well.
6. (9) Falcons (3-1)
The falcons silenced the San Francisco crowd a few minutes into the game. They made the 49ers look like the team people expected them to be coming into the season. White and Turner both had their delayed coming out parties as they had a combined 5 touchdowns and White had 210 yards.
7. (11) Broncos (5-0)
I was wrong, again. I thought the broncos would lose that game. But, once again the defense came through big time. Kyle Orton is no superstar, but he is one of the smartest quarterbacks in the league. He can simply get it done. They’ll be playing their only competition in their division against the chargers which should once again be another close game for the broncos.
8. (13) Bengals (4-1)
That hail mary tipped pass loss to the broncos was a bad loss which is their only loss, but as of now it isn’t as bad a loss as we thought. Not only did they beat the defending champs, but they also beat one of the best teams in the league in Baltimore which is not an easy task.
9. (5) Ravens (3-2)
That was a tough loss to swallow. They’re still thought as a dangerous team come playoff time, but they’ll need to come through late in games, which they have not done 2 weeks in a row. First week they blew it on offense with a dropped pass and this week the defense blew it giving up a last minute touchdown. They’ll once again face a tough team in the Vikings on the road.
10. (6) Jets (3-2)
Braylon Edwards looked great in his first stint in green, too bad the defense played nothing like they have been playing like this year. You would think Rex Ryan would have planned a little better against the wild cat. They should bounce back with a win over the bills this week.
11. (12) Bears (3-1)
Nice bye week for them, too bad they come back to face a dangerous falcons team. Cutler will have to put up solid numbers again. The defense will have to play better than they have been in order to lock down the dangerous falcons offense.
12. (8) Patriots (3-2)
Tom Brady is a bitch. He is a good player, but he complains after every play that isn’t a completed pass. Why am I saying this, well by him complaining and pointing fingers is messes with the morale of his teammates. This is a talented team that for the first time in a decade looks like they have no heart on the field. The secondary looked like high school kids late in the game against Kyle Orton. No question in my mind this is a good team and they can still win the super bowl, but the team morale needs to be changed.
13. (10) 49ers (3-2)
That’s the team we all anticipated to see coming into the season. The defense did not look like one of the top defenses which we’ve seen this year. Maybe they got a little cocky, especially Dre Bly doing his Deion Sanders impersonation 85 yards from the end zone like an idiot and fumbling. It’s a good week for a bye week, they really need Frank Gore.
14. (14) Steelers (3-2)
I don’t know what’s going on with the champs. To only beat the lions by a touchdown is not a good thing. Rashard Mendenhall should be named the starting running back and the offense has looked good this year, but the defense really misses Troy Palamalu and when he’s back they’ll look like the defending champs.
15. (18) Cardinals (2-2)
After being up 21-0 and looking great, they were completely embarrassed by Andre Johnson. The offense looked great, but the defense got lucky with a last minute pick 6. Boldin was off to somewhat of a slow start and has picked it up the past couple games. Fitzgerald continues to dominate and because of those two, Warner is finally on track and has had a great completion percentage.
16. (16) Packers (2-2)
They’ll need to get hot and fast if they want to keep up with the Vikings. They’ll need to get hot just for a chance to make the playoffs the way the NFC is looking now. Aaron Rodgers is turning out to be quite a player. The defense has been somewhat disappointing after coming into the season and one of the top defenses. The running game continues to have issues and Ryan Grant needs a replacement.
17. (17) Chargers (2-2)
They’ll be facing the undefeated broncos; I guess this year wouldn’t be as much of a walk in the park as people said. Everyone had them as locks for the playoffs, more than any other team in the league, now they are in a big hole early in the season and if they lose this game their chances of winning the division are slim to none.
18. (21) Dolphins (2-3)
They have won 2 straight games, but they should have a better record. I believe coach Tony Sparano is doing a terrible job this year. Not because they have 3 losses, but because he doesn’t realize that he should be running the wildcat 80-90% of the time. That formation is nearly unstoppable if it is used that much. They looked amazing on drives lasting nearly 10 minutes against the jets and beat up the opposing defenses. They’re making some noise in that division which is wide open with no clear best team.
19. (15) Cowboys (3-2)
I don’t think a team has ever moved down 4 spots after winning. I know they were down their top receiver, but to barely beat the chiefs in overtime because of terrible tackling is unacceptable for a team who is considered to be a playoff team. They still have a 3-2 record regardless that the 3 wins were close games against a few of the worst teams in the league. Miles Austin showed up big time and single handedly won that game for them. Tony Romo looks awful this year, maybe he needed T.O. after all. This team has potential, but they are a mess as of now and it’s about time Wade Phillips gets the call.
20. (25) Seahawks (2-3)
The jaguars looked great 2 weeks in a row; the seahawks made everyone forget that after that blowout. This season has shown just how important Matt Hasselbeck is to this team. A win next week against the cardinals and this division will become extremely tight and interesting.
21. (19) Jaguars (2-3)
After showing that they have talent and the potential to make a run for the playoffs, the Jags were smacked by the seahawks. At least they’ll have the Rams to rejuvenate themselves next week. The defense has been terrible all year and will need some changes to turn things around.
22. (20) Texans (2-3)
First the momentum started out low being down 21-0, and then they were high tying the game at 21 driving for the win, then it hit rock bottom after throwing a pick six to cost them a huge comeback win. That would have been a huge win for them. At least Andre Johnson put on a one man highlight reel embarrassing the cardinals defense.
23. (23) Panthers (1-3)
They finally got their first win. Too bad it was a win they shouldn’t have had. A punt hitting a players foot who wasn’t looking which landed them 10 yards from the end zone leading to the game winning touchdown. The offense has been more than disappointing after being great last year with no changes to the roster. Jake Delhomme will most likely be playing his last season in Carolina.
24. (22) Redskins (2-3)
That was an extremely tough loss after a special teams blunder. They still don’t look like the team they should be and Zorn needs to be fired. Campbell didn’t play bad, but he also didn’t play good, and at this point he must play good for this team to succeed. The offense has been bad all year, at least the defense has been okay.
25. (28) Browns (1-4)
I think it’s safe to say that Brady Quinn is done in Cleveland. I think it should be safe to say that Derek Anderson should be done in Cleveland as well. They need a new quarterback I don’t care if they won, they won by luck on a punt hitting the bills player and going to them for an easy game winning field goal. If I was a browns fan I would be hoping they’d lose that game so they can get the #1 pick and get the top QB in the draft.
26. (24) Bills (1-4)
This team continues to fall after a pretty great first game. Now they have no shot at making the playoffs and must deal with T.O. little by little beginning to show signs of an explosion. The no huddle offense must, huddle.
27. (26) Titans (0-5)
It may be time to see Vince Young on the field to mix things up. Maybe tryout the wildcat with those running backs and Young could work out. I don’t think there’s much this team can do to fix their problems. The once great defense is now turning into one of the worst.
28. (27) Lions (1-4)
They really aren’t that bad. They knew coming into the season they weren’t going to make the playoffs, but they have shown positive signs for the future. After a nice pick this year on the defensive end they could be working their way back to playoff contention little by little.
29. (29) Raiders (1-4)
I think at this point Jamarcus Russell needs to stop trying to gun every throw. Maybe if he learns to throw it with a little more touch he can be the player he was drafted to be. It’s time to bench him. The defense is decent, but was dismantled by the giants and even the giants backups.
30. (30) Chiefs (0-5)
They made a nice run, but unfortunately they secondary were manhandled by Miles Austin. They really didn’t look bad, in fact for the first half of the game they looked like they were going to pull off the upset. Cassell looked better than he has been and the defense stepped their games up as well.
31. (31) Buccaneers (0-5)
Can two teams go winless this year? Doubt it, but as of now it sure looks possible. I think it’s time to see what the rookie has with Josh Freeman. It couldn’t hurt at this point.
32. (32) Rams (0-5)
The bad news is they lost, the good news is they didn’t get shut out.
