[Power Ranks Week 4]
KMoney's NFL Power Rankings Week 4

KMoney's NFL Power Ranks Week 5

1. (1) Colts (4-0)

I no longer believe that they will miss Marvin Harrison. These receivers have picked up his slack and then some. Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie have been great additions to a Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark receiving core. Because of that Peyton Manning may have one of his best years already throwing for 9 touchdowns and over 70%. The defense is playing great as well and with Dwight Freeney getting sacks in games he shouldn’t even be playing in is a good sign for this team on all cylinders.

2. (2) Saints (4-0)

Drew Brees has thrown zero touchdowns in two games, and the team is still winning. That would leave thousands of people scratching their heads until they actually watch the unspoken hero, the defense. People still ignore the fact that the defense has been phenomenal this season and are being overlooked because of a huge offensive game against the lions, get over it. The defense won that game for them two games in a row, maybe now they’ll get a little respect.

3. (3) Giants (4-0)

The other Manning went down, however I don’t think it is anything serious. He hurt himself really and I’m sure he could have continued but they were already beating up the chiefs and with their running game and offensive line there is no need to risk his injury. Steve Smith is exceeding everyones expectations. I thought he’d be a great slot receiver and put up 60 receptions consistently, now he’s looking like a great number 2, which is more than people pictured this year out of this receiving core. Another thing I was wrong about, this receiving core. They aren’t great, but they are not bottom 5 anymore. Nicks, Smith, Manningham and Boss are all nice targets for a team which relies on its running game.

4. (5) Vikings (4-0)

Admit it Vikings fans, you never expected this type of play from Brett Favre. He played one of his best games in years on Monday night. Maybe it was just because he played the packers and he had a little youth hit him. Regardless he looked great and so did Sidney Rice. Rice, who has been slightly disappointing in his NFL years, had 5 receptions for 70 yards and a touchdown, but more importantly two huge onside kick recoveries which he gave his all to get. Jared Allen is a beast. 4.5 sacks and a forced fumble was really the only positive thing on defense. The defense can’t give up those types of numbers and hope to win from now on, allowing Aaron Rodgers to throw for his career high and allowing green bay to rush well wasn’t a good thing. Adrian Peterson was locked down and had one of his worst career games rushing 25 times for 55 yards a touchdown and a fumble which was returned for a touchdown.

5. (4) Ravens (3-1)

That win would’ve been a huge win for this team, and it should’ve been a win. There is no excuse for dropping that ball. It would have been 1st and goal from about the 5 or so. Most likely leading to a touchdown the way the drive was going for the ravens and it would have given the patriots very little or no time at all to attempt to drive and win the game. Clayton catches that ball and this team is 4-0. Regardless Flacco looks like a pro bowler and a long time veteran in this league already. Ray Rice has a great looking future and the team as a whole should not be upset about this loss, because I could see this team making it deep into the playoffs.

6. (6) Jets (3-1)

Sanchez single handedly lost the game. 3 interceptions and a fumble led to more than half of the saints points. An interception at the one yard line for a touchdown and a fumble recovered in the endzone destroyed their chances early in the game. The defense played their asses off again and locked down Drew Brees and that offense. If Sanchez would have even played poor rather than horrible, they would be 4-0 behind this defense.

7. (7) Eagles (2-1)

That bye week may’ve been their most important week of the season so far. Recovering the injured players on this team was crucial. DeSean Jackson was banged up and barely played last week. Expect McNabb, Westbrook, Jackson and oh yeah Jeremiah Trotter to be on the field this upcoming Sunday against the pitiful Bucs. If they want to be considered legitimate super bowl contenders they must stay healthy.

8. (8) Patriots (3-1)

I have nothing against the patriots at all, but this team could easily be 1-3 right now rather than 3-1. They have had two extremely lucky wins. We all know about week 1 with the bills, but now they have their recent win against the ravens. They weren’t undeserving, but realistic fans will admit that if Clayton catches that easy pass for a first down the ravens were going to win that game. Regardless a win is a win and that’s all that matters. They are now tied for first in their division and we all know what this team is capable of doing offensively. They have beaten two of the top 10 teams and who knows maybe this team goes 15-1.

9. (9) Falcons (2-1)

They’ll have a tough matchup against the 49ers this weekend which as of now could look to be a potential big game for a playoff spot. Matt Ryan is having a great season so far and this team looks good on both offense and defense, now we’ll just have to wait and see if they can compete with the saints for the division title.

10. (12) 49ers (3-1)

It was the rams, but that was a massacre. To put up 35 points is impressive; to give up 0 is much more impressive. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a lot more 49ers fans jumping back on the wagon soon. Vernon Davis is finally beginning to look like he is somewhat deserving of being drafted so high. He is still young so you never know if he’ll eventually turn out to be a hall of famer TE. Patrick Willis is arguably the best defender in the league and he is the leader of this defense which has been one of the top defenses this year. They’ll face a test this week against the falcons.

11. (20) Broncos (4-0)

In 4 of their 5 times starting 4-0 in franchise history, they have reached the super bowl. Kyle Orton has played just how he always has, which is solid. Brandon Marshall manhandled the cowboys defense all on his own on his touchdown reception. He embarrassed Terrence Newman and then juked out about 5 or 6 other defenders to get in the end zone. They lost Buckhalter, but there is no word on how long, which could hurt because he has been great for that offense this year and was a nice duo with Moreno. I gave this team very little respect simply because of what I thought about them coming into the season, I now realize I should listen to the old saying “Never judge a book by its cover”.

12. (16) Bears (3-1)

After a heartbreaking loss in week 1 this team has gone 3-0 since then. The offense led by Jay Cutler has been the best offense the bears have had in well, probably 20 years. And this has been with a subpar receiving core. The defense hasn’t been playing that well which is a complete flip around for this team having a poor defense and a good offense. Who would’ve thought this division which has been so weak in the recent years would have a tough 3 team race.

13. (13) Bengals (3-1)

The special teams almost lost the game allowing those blocked kicks. Allowing a blocked extra point with the game tied and a minute left is inexcusable. Regardless they pulled out the win although it should not be a struggle to beat the browns. Carson Palmer showed guts and leadership fighting to go for it on 4th and 15 rather than taking the tie and risking a possible loss. He used his intelligence to realize nobody was open and understand that even as slow a runner as he may be, he could make the first down, and he did. Because of that run and courage the Bengals are now 3-1 rather than 2-1-1 and having back to back seasons with a tie.

14. (14) Steelers (2-2)

This team has some real issues in the second half. To have a 28 point lead in the second half and nearly allow the chargers to come back and tie the game is a not a good sign. The offense was unstoppable and that is a good sign. Mendenhall finally shows what he’s got, 165 rushing yards 2 touchdowns and 26 receiving yards was a big relief for big ben. The defense looked great in the first half, but looked terrible in the second half. They truly miss Polamalu every defensive drive late in the game. Regardless they looked great offensively and that was a huge win to get them back to .500. They should take the momentum from this win and run with it over Detroit next week.

15. (11) Cowboys (2-2)

Tony Romo is no superstar. He has been overrated his whole career and is proving so this year. He made a huge great play on 4th down to get all the way down field and then failed to score on 1st and short. I have no idea why the cowboys decided to pass on every down, regardless that they weren’t running well that day, when their running game has been superb this entire year. They only needed a few yards and even one run could’ve helped get them closer if not a touchdown. Regardless this team has been very inconsistent all year and has shown they can be good. Both of their losses have been to 4-0 teams so it shouldn’t be too much of a disappointment for them. They are still 2-2 and have potential to get 10 wins this year. Dallas fans don’t jump off the wagon like many cowboys fans do, they’ll be fine.

16. (10) Packers (2-2)

Maybe they focused too much on Adrian Peterson because Brett Favre absolutely lit up his old team. They locked down Adrian Peterson, but they couldn’t stop the passing game. Aaron Rodgers looked great passing for his career high. He came through in the clutch leading to two scoring drives in the last 5 minutes and luckily for the Vikings, the packers didn’t get the onside kick because he may’ve gone for a game tying third. Tough loss, but they should still be solid contenders for the playoffs in most people’s eyes.

17. (15) Chargers (2-2)

After looking like the Rams in the first 44 minutes of the game the chargers decided to show up. However it was too little too late and they lost. They absolutely owned the steelers from the end of the 3rd quarter to the end, but being down 28 points was too much to overcome. Most to everyone had this team as a lock to win the division, well look at them now, they may not even compete in the worst division in football. This is yet another team with potential and talent that can’t put it together at the right time.

18. (19) Cardinals (1-2)

They’ll have a tough match coming back from the bye week facing the Texans. The defense and offense both look poor. In order to have a chance to win the division the passing game will need to play like they did last year and the rest will fall into place. The Texans defense isn’t the best so maybe this will be a good week for them to get back on track.

19. (21) Jaguars (2-2)
After looking nearly done 2 weeks ago this team has gained some life back. They have only beaten the 0-4 titans and the Texans, but they were both in division games which will help them out big time. They’ll need to continue to play well on offense to join any playoff talks.

20.
(22) Texans (2-2)

They beat the raiders which isn’t saying much, but the raiders at least have a solid defense which was ripped apart by the Texans. They held the raiders to 6 points, but that isn’t saying much again simply because Jamarcus Russell is their QB and probably couldn’t have a good game even if he was back at LSU playing a division two team.

21. (26) Dolphins (1-3)

The wildcat is unstoppable with this team. They are consistent with it and can march down the field and ware out the defense at the same time if they use it enough. Chad Henne looked solid in his first pro start so it’ll be interesting to watch him throughout the rest of the year. The defense played extremely well and forced 3 interceptions and a fumble. If the defense plays that well the rest of the year and they continue with the wildcat this team will climb these rankings fast.

22. (25) Redskins (2-2)

What is wrong with this team? There is no reason this team should be 2-2 besides the fact that the two wins came against the two worst teams in the league who they barely beat. I’ve been defending Jason Campbell, but this week he flat out looked bad. If it wasn’t for their defense they would have lost to the Lions, Rams and Bucs, arguably the three worst teams in the league. Something needs to change otherwise this team can have a top 5 pick even though they have the talent to be a playoff team.

23. (24) Panthers (0-3)

It was a good time to have a bye week, although I’m sure they wish they had a bye the first 3 weeks as well. They had an extra week to figure out what’s wrong, and if they didn’t figure out what’s wrong, I can tell them how they can win in one word, run. Stop passing the ball so much and have your offense rely on the run game. That is the only thing that has been working for them this year. They play Washington who they can and probably will get their first win against.

24. (17) Bills (1-3)

This has got to be an emotional first few weeks if you’re a bills fan. Absolutley blowing a win against the patriots, beating the terrible bucs and then getting their asses handed to them the next two games. I really thought after week one that they could win the division, at least they have the browns this week where they’ll have a good opportunity to get back on track.

25. (18) Seahawks (1-3)

Peyton Manning manhandled the seahawks defense. They may get Matt Hasselbeck back, but that won’t help this defense. They need to win this upcoming game against the jaguars or their season is done.

26.
(23) Titans (0-4)

Last year’s team who went the longest without a loss may be this year’s team who goes the longest without a win. They are a good team, they just must still be disappointed from last year. Maybe we’ll see some Vince Young action this weekend after they’re getting smacked by the colts.

27. (27) Lions (1-3)

Stafford is done and maybe out. The injury isn’t as bad as most first thought, but that’s still not good that your franchise QB already has an injury. The offense played solid, but the defense got tossed around and couldn’t seem to stop anything. They’ll be facing Pittsburgh which will be tough on both the offense and the defense.

28. (30) Browns (0-4)

They almost had it or at least a tie. A ballsy call by Carson Palmer handed them their 4th loss. Derek Anderson hasn’t been great, but he’s been better than Brady Quinn. His interception in the endzone cost them big time. That turnover possibly cost them their first win. At least special teams is playing well with nice returns and blocked kicks, it’s just too bad that special teams is playing better than both the offense and defense combined.

29.
(28) Raiders (1-3)

Jeff Garcia was talking trash about the raiders so I’m assuming that his return is unlikely, which is unfortunate; if he would go there they’d probably start him. With their backup qb’s now they’ll continue to start Russell even though he’s awful. It’s sad that 12 for 33 for 0 touchdowns or interceptions is probably considered a win in Jamarcus Russell’s mind. They haven’t score a touchdown in 2 weeks and now go to face the giants defense which has been very dangerous.

30. (29) Chiefs (0-4)

Matt Cassell threw 2 touchdowns, but still didn’t have a great game. Only throwing for 127 yards on 32 attempts should hardly be considered a good game. There is 0 going right for this team and it’s hard to name one player who is playing well this season. They’ll be 0-5.

31. (31) Buccaneers (0-4)

The passing game is terrible, the running game is eh, the receivers are terrible, the defense is horrid, did I miss anything? They now are traveling to Philly where they’ll be playing an eagles team who are nearly unstoppable after a bye week and will be gaining back star players. The bucs will be lucky to get 3 wins.

32. (32) Rams (0-4)

How do you get shut out twice in a season let alone twice in the first 4 games? Steven Jackson is the only good player on this team and even he isn’t doing well this year. They need to rest any of their good players for the season so they can come into next season full strength with the #1 pick and some key free agent signings. We could possibly have back to back seasons with winless teams.

Once the Ravens can beat the Steelers, Colts and Pats, I'll buy into them. Otherwise, they're no better than any other year.

They do look extremely good and better this year. Most people had them #1 and I'm surprised that you don't think they're that good. They lost I understand, but they played well and were a wide open dropped ball away from probably winning.

But I do understand where you're coming from, I just think highly of them still even after a loss.

I whole heartedly disagree. Our defense has been stiffling all year. The linebackers were amazing (rewatch the goaline stand). The entire defensive line was dominant. Winfield and Griffin pretty much shut down Driver and Jennings. Had about 3 breakdowns that netted about half of Rodgers yards (obviously not a good thing, but at the same time it is correctable). If Childress had any clue how to manage an entire game (called a good game til the end) GB would have never made it interesting at the end. Minnesota kept throwing the ball around stopping the clock late extending the game for GB. There wasn't many stretches where GB's offense looked at all in sync. I mean this in no way as disrespectful towards Rodgers because he is a stud, but that was about as an unimpressive 360 yard performance you'll see.

EDIT: Eh, admittedly, that probably wasn't worded the way I intended it to be.

Also, not sure how they ran the ball effectively. Grant had only 51 yards and most of it was just on a few random draws. They were never even close to establishing the run.

The problem with this what if game you are playing is it can be played both ways. Sure you can say what if clayton caught that ball and I could say the defense could tighten up when closer to the endzone but I am not going that direction. What if earlier in the game the pats offense wasn't stalled because of a dropped pass by welker. The way they were driving down the field if it weren't for that they would have scored, its academic really (to steal someone else's line on this game in another thread). So if you change it to 31 points instead of 27 Baltimore has no chance. Here take a look at this drive, started at the NE 26 stalled because of drops at the 9:

1-10-NE26(14:10) (Shotgun) F.Taylor left guard to NE 29 for 3 yards (K.Gregg).
2-7-NE29(13:37) (No Huddle, Shotgun) T.Brady pass incomplete short left to W.Welker.
3-7-NE29(13:34) (Shotgun) T.Brady pass short middle to W.Welker to NE 40 for 11 yards (T.Zbikowski).
1-10-NE40(12:48) (Shotgun) T.Brady scrambles right end ran ob at NE 47 for 7 yards.
2-3-NE47(12:19) (Shotgun) T.Brady pass short middle to W.Welker to BLT 49 for 4 yards (R.Lewis).
1-10-BAL49(11:41) (Shotgun) L.Maroney left tackle to 50 for -1 yards (J.Johnson).
2-11-50 (10:56) (Shotgun) T.Brady pass short left to S.Morris to BLT 36 for 14 yards (B.Ayanbadejo, J.Johnson). BLT-B.Ayanbadejo was injured during the play.
1-10-BAL36(10:21) (Shotgun) K.Faulk up the middle to BLT 26 for 10 yards (R.Lewis, E.Reed).
1-10-BAL26(9:44) (Shotgun) K.Faulk up the middle to BLT 23 for 3 yards (T.Suggs, D.Landry).
2-7-BAL23(9:06) (Shotgun) T.Brady pass short left to K.Faulk to BLT 17 for 6 yards (D.Landry). Baltimore challenged the pass completion ruling, and the play was Upheld. (Timeout #1.)
3-1-BAL17(8:30) S.Vollmer reported in as eligible. S.Morris left tackle to BLT 15 for 2 yards (J.Johnson, R.Lewis).
1-10-BAL15(8:07) (Shotgun) T.Brady pass short left to S.Morris to BLT 9 for 6 yards (F.Washington).
2-4-BAL9(7:25) (Shotgun) T.Brady pass incomplete short left to R.Moss.
3-4-BAL9(7:22) (Shotgun) T.Brady pass incomplete short right to W.Welker (T.Suggs).
4-4-BAL9(7:18) (Field Goal formation) C.Hanson pass short left to C.Baker ran ob at BLT 5 for 4 yards.
PENALTY on NE-C.Baker, Illegal Motion, 6 yards, enforced at BLT 9 - No Play. Baltimore challenged the pass completion ruling, and the play was Upheld. (Timeout #2.)4-10-BAL15(7:14) S.Gostkowski 33 yard field goal is GOOD, Center-J.Ingram, Holder-C.Hanson.BAL 21 NE 27, Plays: 15 Yards: 59 Possession: 7:07.

So to just use the last drive as your what if scenario isn't a very fair way of ranking this team as you can do this for just about every game. The fact is the patriots scored 27 points on the baltimore defense and only gave up 14...that right there is where you should rank the teams.

Now I have no problem with where you put them based on the Bills win because that win was because the Bills don't know their situational football. But to further my point about what ifs is Brady had a lot of WRs drop tons of passes all game, if the recievers caught more balls they wouldn't have needed help from the Bills. This can happen in every game every week.
