Kevin Garnett was a bigger star than any Knick in the past decade. It doesnt matter where you play, only your talent matters. If youre good, youre going to get endorsements, period.
I agree. If Rubio pans out he could be just as big a star as KG was in Minnesota(no im not saying he will reach his talent level)
so what is the stipulations on the Wolves own pick next year in terms of protection? How do they keep it? What has to happen to turn it over to the Clippers?
I think Lawson is being over rated by a lot of people because he was a Tar Heel. I love Flynn's intangibles and the longer this whole scenario is delayed with Flynn playing and Rubio in Europe, I think it might become increasingly likely that Rubio is the one dealt. They definately can't play together...maybe if Telfair is dealt one could backup the other, but not sure how that would advance the Wolves at all.

I believe it is top 10 protected for the next 2 years and then we get the pick back. So if we suck 2 more years than the Clippers dont get a 1st round pick at all from us. It may turn into a 2nd rounder we owe them though.
Supposedly Flynn was supposed to be dealt along with the 18th pick to Sacramento. It hinged on a couple players being at 18 but noone was so we got stuck w/ Flynn, thats what leads me to believe it will be Flynn as the odd man out.

Maybe, but at this point I'd say there is an outside shot at Flynn being dealt now since he and Telfair are going to be depended upon at PG this season.
Flynn has 2 years of playing for our coach and Kahn to prove himself before Rubio allegedly ever even comes over. If he plays well, Rubio will be dealt.

I think Rubio AT MOST will play in Spain for 1 more year. If we know Rubio is going to come over, then I think we will deal Flynn. Either way I dont think Rubio will be traded any time soon.

I doubt that, unless by well you mean good to great, because right now thats what Rubio is supposed to offer. Now if Flynn plays good to great, then yeah I could see the wolves trading Rubio, but then it wouldnt matter because we'd have a young star at the point already.
Oh and to be honest, I could seriously see the wolves holding on to Rubio for the year because, they want to keep their own draft pick, with the trading of Miller & Foye and with Rubio not coming over this year, there is a very good chance the wolves have a bottom 5 record, unless they go after a bigger name F/A, but I just dont see this happening.

I think they will definately hold on to him for at least a year. I think the only way you see him traded is 1 or 2 years down the road if he is threatening to play out the 2 years in Spain, sit a year, and reenter the draft. We could then auction him off to the highest bidder. Remember, he re-enters the draft, so we could trade him to a contender for a good player since they wouldnt have a shot at him in the draft.

Umm...not quite right Mesa. The pick we owe the Clippers is top 10 protected through 2011 and unprotected after that. If we are still picking in the top 10 in the 2012 draft, then most current Wolves fans will have given up on the team long ago.

Are you sure about that? I could have sworn that if we suck long enough the Clippers dont get it.

According to a report from El Periodico, Ricky Rubio has decided not to come over to the United States to play for the Minnesota Timberwolves and will remain with DKV Joventut for the next two seasons.
I guess Flynn was their insurance policy in case Rubio didn't want to be a wolf or couldn't get out of the buyout.

Eh. Ill believe it when I see it. Its basically like Favre saying he is retired. Even if he doesnt come over for 2 seasons, he still has to sit out of pro ball completely for 1 year before he can reenter the draft. Also he could play out his contract for 2 years so he has no buyout and then come play for Minnesota.
Reading the Wolves board I frequent, they are all in agreement this is just to force DKV to lower the buyout because they cant afford Rubio to play there because they have to pay Spain's IRS a ton of money if they have to pay his salary.

The buyout from his team is pretty ridiculous considering how much he makes per year. He makes something under 100,000 euros per year but his buyout is 6 million euros. The good thing is the Wolves still own his rights so if he does come back he has to be a Wolve or force a trade either way the Wolves have the upper hand.

Thats what everyone keeps forgetting. He may go play in Spain for 2 years, nothing against the Wolves but rather just so he doesnt have to pay a buyout. Also the Flynn pick was a good pick because he gives us an ace in the hole in case Rubio wants to pull anything.
As soon as Flynn was picked the Wolves either knew beforehand that Rubio wasn't going to leave with that huge buyout there was a reason why they picked Rubio ahead as the #5 pick he'll make slightly more money then the #6 pick. Ellington is going to be a solid player for the Wolves.

Yeah I dont think Rubio has any problem in Minnesota, its just a matter of his buyout.
For the past couple months I have been wanting Lawson at 18 and Ellington at 28. Unfortunately we traded Lawson but still got 2 promising PG's.
Supposedly the Flynn pick was going to be packaged with 18 to send to Sacramento for Evans but 3 players the Kings wanted didnt fall so the deal was off.
Timberwolves trade Etan Thomas for Chucky Atkins & Damien Wilkins
also included in the deal was 2 future 2nd round picks going to Oklamhoma City.
I'm not sure how I feel about David Kahn, but one thing is for sure, and that is he has a fire lit to try to build a contender to how he see's fit. Whether or not he is making good moves to trying to build a championship contender are yet to be seen. One thing I do like about Kahn is that he isnt afraid to make a trade. I just hope this isnt an excuse for clearing cap space the team says it will use in 2010, just to not use it. For now however the team will have the benefit of the doubt.
For the first time since the Wolves traded KG to Boston, I'm excited for the season to begin. I want to see what a starting lineup of Al Jefferson, Kevin Love, Ryan Gomes, Q.Richardson, and J. Flynn can do. I know im probably more excited then most Wolves fans, its just been a long time since the wolves, have done anything significant to try to improve their roster, I believe the last time was when they traded for Spree & Cassell. Lets just hope that the Wolves boss finds us a coach soon.

Fixed.
Im a big fan of Kahn. He has come out with the best piece in every single trade we have made so far. He wouldnt be talking such a big game about next summer if we are not going to spend money.
