According to a league source, the Lakers have contacted the Kings regarding Ron Artest and are believed to be offering forward Lamar Odom.
Kings basketball president Geoff Petrie declined comment on whether the Lakers had called.
"Right now, (Artest is) just a terrific player to have on your roster," Petrie said. "I don't really have any speculation one way or another (about his future). We'll see what other things – not specific to Ron – but if there's some other way we can improve the team or change the team, we'll take a look at it."
I think this is good for both squads. The Lakers get a better all-around player in Artest. Another all-star caliber player to put alongside Gasol, Kobe and Bynum.
And the Kings get a better rebounder.. which is something they've needed.
Kings-
C: Brad Miller/Spencer Hawes
PF: Jason Thompson
SF: Lamar Odom
SG: Kevin Martin
PG: Beno Udrih
Lakers-
C: Andrew Bynum
PF: Pau Gasol
SF: Ron Artest
SG: Kobe Bryant
PG: Derek Fisher/Jordan Farmar

That Lakers team would be downright scary.
Plus isn't Odom an expiring contract?

The Lakers better throw in a pick too. Actually I'd rather them trade straight for a 1st round pick.
Well if you enjoy picking late in the draft, go for it. I doubt that it'd be straight up like that. Lakers are already past the cap by $4 mill, I think.

Well it'd be something liek Ron Artest and a bad contract ilke John Salmons and a throw in player..
So they do get rid of a bad contract.. and seeing as Artest doesn't want to be there.. Odom might potentially resign (who knows?) and Odom is the better rebounder of the two.. which is something the Kings sorely need.

I'd give up those rebounds for a stronger, inside player in Artest. Especially with Bynum and Mihm  coming back. I was tired of seeing Odom and Gasol, for that matter, taking weak drives to the hoop against the Celtics.

I wouldn't say that Odom is the better rebounder, of the two. He gets more, but I wouldn't say he is the better rebounder.

.
Next season, I doubt this Jason Thompson guy is better than Lamar at the 4. I think I would go with Lamar at the four and Salmons at the 3. If you don't resign Lamar...then Thompson goes into the starting lineup in the season afterwards. Lamar hasn't played the 3 in quite a while. Plus, I think Francisco Garcia might get some mins at the 3 (even though he is really a 2) and they just drafted Patrick Ewing, Jr.
This trade would make the Lakers the team to beat for sure. It doesn't benefit the Kings alot unless they plan on resigning Lamar...which I highly doubt. Unless there is a salary dump or Artest just becomes too much to bear....the Kings should think twice about handing the title over to their heated rival.
