Though less anticipated than the summer of 2010, the summer of 2009 still has some marquee names avalable and here are some rumors abrewing

Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva both flew to Detroit to meet with Joe Dumars and they are close to deals. Imagine that Detroit steals two stars from division rivals

Grizzlies are going to make a 40-50 million dollar offer to David Lee

Mavs and Knicks both going hard after Kidd

Hedo Turkgolu to Portland

Millsap talking to OKC, Utah

Celtics wooing Sheed

Marcin Gortat, Yao's replacement?

The NBA is an unforgiving place, a league in which a wrong draft choice or a bad free-agent signing can relegate a franchise to oblivion for a decade. The stagnation is very real: In the last 30 years, just eight franchises have won NBA titles. The Lakers won nine, the Bulls six, the Celtics and Spurs four each, and the Pistons three. Houston won two, while the 1983 Sixers and 2006 Miami Heat are the only one-and-done franchises.

Where do people think Iverson will go? There are two types of systems in the NBA, free-flow and structured and he fits into neither of them. He and Baron Davis fit into the offense of "me-flow".

wow...it's less than the NHL in your book. That's low.

It is unforgiven and it should be....that is why GMs have to make smart decisions...they just can't throw money around. Personally, i think a bad FA decision is worse than a bad draft pick..cause with a bad draft pick...you can just choose again the next year...whereas signing Eddy Curry to the max can hamper your team for 5 or 6 years.

Just a quick sample of guys who make around 12 million a year:

Andrew Bynum
Richard Hamilton
Monta Ellis
Troy Murphy
Baron Davis
Al Jefferson

Ok, this is a diverse list, and I think it's clear that Turkoglu is more valuable that some of these guys and less valuable than others. What I'm seeing though is that most guys who are better than Turkoglu but make less money are on their second contracts (i.e. Danny Granger, Devin Harris). I think this is market value for Turkoglu given that it's probably his last major contract.

Well Ben Gordon has found a new home for the next five years. 5 years 55 million. We'll see if Gar Forman trades Hinrich before July 8 to match the deal.

How about trading Hedo to Toronto in a sign and trade that nets Orlando a signed Shawn Marion. Now that is a win-win for both teams. (This is just my opinion...no rumor)
