Default Marlins Getting Thrown Out

The Marlins won't be allowed to use Pro Player Stadium anymore beginning in 2010, says the president of the stadium. The president said they want to "pursue such events as cricket and soccer" and the Marlins being there prevents that pursuit. You know it's bad when cricket is expected to draw better than a MLB team.

Ouch. That's not a good sign at all. They win a WS and a little over a year later Pro Player Stadium says Cricket will get more fans...they need a new stadium!!

This is one reason their are rumors they could eventually be moved to Vegas.

It's a joke the city and county can't get a new stadium done.

Wasn't the new owner willing to chip in a good amount? I thought I remember him being willing to pitch in a good portion if they'd provide the land and provide infrastructure.

I personally think this is partly a ploy to help get the city to finally shore up the new stadium finance deal. If you think about it, 2010 gives the city enough time to finance and build a stadium with no rush if they get the financing done soon.

Also, as I recall, they are only about $20 mil apart on financing. Can't decide where that money will come from, but that's not the key problem. The main problem is deciding where the funding will come from if the stadium goes over budget (ownership or city/county). As far as I know once that is resolved the new stadium is a done deal.

The current contract the Marlins have with the city runs out in 2010. They will not put a new stadium up for taxpayer to pay for. so the Marlins are looking to move right now they are looking a Las Vegas.

It can't be a ploy, neither the city nor the Marlins are involved. This is the president fo the stadium, he has nothing to do with the Marlins. The reason he said 2010 is that the Marlins have optional 1 year leases until then. And don't forget, this really only gives them 2-3 years, it'll take a few years to build.
