Rep Power: 14 | | Phillies discussing extension for Cliff Lee
| | Quote: |
NEW YORK - The Phillies have not yet decided whether to offer a contract extension to pitcher Cliff Lee this off-season, but they have discussed the possibility internally.
"Clearly, it's on our minds, but we haven't made a decision if we will yet," general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said. "Naturally you have to think about it, but we're more focused on him pitching in this series."
The club holds a $9 million option on Lee for 2010, after which the 31-year-old lefthander will become a free agent - unless he and the Phillies agree on an extension.
Since the Phils acquired Lee and outfielder Ben Francisco from Cleveland in July for a package of minor-league players, the pitcher has become the team's ace. During the regular season, he was 7-4, with a 3.39 earned run average with the Phils. In the postseason, he is 4-0, with a 1.56 ERA.
Variables for the team to consider: Lee's age, the Phils' already-high payroll, and the potential that Lee could seek a contract comparable to the seven year, $161 million deal the New York Yankees lavished on CC Sabathia last winter.

Rep Power: 15 | | I tell you this Philly, you don't get this guy locked up, you don't deserve to win another or even go to, another World Series. Lights fucking out the best deadline deal in years.

| You've heard what exactly? That the phils have decided to discuss an extention with lee? Which inside source in the phillies organization told you that?

That doesn't say anything about an extension being close to done. All it says is that the Phillies picked up his option for next season.
Well no shit. |

Rep Power: 24 | | Oh, you're talking about something completely unrelated to the topic at hand. This article is discussing an extention to his current contract, not exercising an option in his current contract that everyone knew would be exercised since he was traded for. Do you know what a contract extension is?

Rep Power: 14 | | If I'm the phillies I do whatever it takes to keep him, even if it means making him the highest paid pitcher. Which i'm sure he may be looking for since he's good friends with Sabathia. |

I was responding to Eagles15 when he said the Phillies must sign Lee and they did and picked up his option for 2010.
In fact. I can see the Phillies giving him an extension before the season starts and I told all of you that Cliff Lee was a better choice over Roy Holliday..
Would you trade Cliff Lee straight up for Roy Holliday now?
It does feel good to be right every once in a while...

| This thread is about a contract extension. Eagles said "they must sign Cliff Lee". They didn't "sign" him they picked up his option which was an obvious move. They want to extend his contract which would be signing him.
Yes, it must feel good to be right but that happens very infrequently to you on issues that aren't completely obvious. You are easily becoming the most annoying poster here. |

| No, they did not sign Cliff Lee. They picked up his option. In order to re-sign him, they must give him a long term deal. Everyone knew they were going to pick up his cheap option.
No shit they picked up his option for 7 million or whatever it was. Really going out on a limb there. Nice call.
But the fact remains, no, they did not re-sign him.
As for people emailing you and begging or whatever, I'm going to go out on a limb and say you completely made that up. |

| Okay, let me help you out. Signing a player and extending a player both refer to a new contract being signed. Picking up an option is not the same. Everyone knew he was going to be picked up for next year, nobody was talking about that in this thread. The question is whether the Phillies are willing to part with the cash and commit to a big deal for Lee.
P.S. If you're going to criticize someone's grammar, quit using ellipses all the time haha.

You started a thread praising yourself for putting yourself out there and saying that acquiring the reigning AL Cy Young was a good move. Get off your high horse and quit looking for praise. That's why people get annoyed by you, because you're often straight up wrong, don't admit it, and then look for everyone else to bask in your glory.
| I'm wrong more often than I'm right but it's the same with everybody...
I make an innocent post and you beat your chest like Tarzan and attack me? For what?
I tried to make piece with you a few weeks ago and you blurted out my personal post to you on this board...
You're nothing more than a stupid asshole... You're internet scum..
Do you want to keep this up or make peace?

Rep Power: 0 | | As if it wasn't clear enough...no one sent you emails begging you to come take care of people on the Mill. And if they did, I would assume they were doing it to make fun of you.
Why exactly do you deserve credit for being wrong about the Phillies re-signing Cliff Leigh? | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
