After reading the details of the NBA owners initial proposal to the Players Association, I am almost convinced that there will only be two professional sports leagues in the USA in 2011. We already knew the NFL--[REDACTED]--will not be playing in 2011, but the news that NBA owners want to lower the players' take of revenue dramatically, install a hard cap, and limit max deals, makes the possibility that the NHL and MLB will be the only leagues in action that much greater.
The NFL obviously needs to make some changes (rookie deals, pay structure, etc), but those changes are minor to the ones the NBA needs to make. I've read that 12 NBA teams lost money last year and more are expected to lose this season. It's not only the money aspect, but for the sake of competitive balance, it needs to rehaul the entire cap/luxury tax situation. Teams make one bad move with a contract and it cripples its franchise for 4-7 years. When most of the trades are done for salary reasons, you know you have a problem. When teams can't improve themselves without getting a Top 3 pick and a star player, something's not right.
So I pose it to you guys both in poll form and through your responses: What happens in 2011?

I think they will both have lockouts as sad as it is for me to type this. I love the NBA but they really need to do something about the cap. THe NFL is horrible with Rockie contracts.

There's too much money at stake for everyone involved. In the eleventh hour they'll start making deals.

The NFL is horrible with... top 8.... rookie contracts.
Outside of the top 8-10, and specifically the top 5, the rookie contracts are pretty decent.

I've heard that most owners are actually really happy with the contracts that picks 15-32 typically get.
it's just those top 5, and god forbid you take a player between 6-15 who was projected to go in the top 5, is the 2nd QB off the board, or someone whom you traded up to get.
Despite the top picks the NFL still makes a ton of $$$ and they are not going to ruin that with a lockout. They will simply play an uncapped year. Even the players union is in favor of an NBA style rookie structure so there is no issue.

The player's union is made up exclusively of current players, not guys coming into the draft, so they see it as increasing their pay, albeit at the expense of the new guys. They might fuss a little about it hurting the players, but in the end, it just makes more salary cap room to go around to the veterans.

Although your intent was not to make fun of Prophet Muhammad(PBUH), the title offended me. I would really appreciate it if you changed the title of this thread.
I doubt either the NBA and NFL will allow a work stoppage after seeing what it did to the NHL. At the end of the day, no one knows exactly what is gonna happen.

The 1st Amendment is a beautiful thing. See you totaly have the freedom to worship God, Muhammed, Allah or a dog if you so please. It also gives Livin the freedom to name his posts whatever he may please. So just get over it and if you find it offensive pray that you get over it, because its Super Bowl Sunday for the love of anything holy.
Hiding behind the first amendment is what ignorant people do to justify the ridiculous things that come out of their mouths. I'll leave you to your ignorance. If SRM admins want to allow someone's beliefs to be made a mockery of then that's their problem. Unfortunately, I won't support a site that allows this, so cya.

Oh my God... You've been here for six years and you're going to make this title thread to leave this site?

I am one that thinks the owners and players cannot help themselves in the name of greed not have work stoppages that really punish those around their sports, whether it be the Tshirt salespeople, food service, ushers, and the like. Those folks cannot wait around why the million to billionaire debutantes play chicken with the sports. I have not been back to the NHL since the strike and my wife will have to fear for the worst if they take the NFL from me. I could start being around the house a helluva lot more. Bad for marriage, bad for families.
As to the title of the site, if some think it is warranted, either Rob or super mods need to be contacted. I do suspect that on Monday we are going to see some changes around here. Quantum changes.
