Rep Power: 22 | | New Drug in schools Student suspended for buying Skittles at school
NEW HAVEN, Connecticut (AP) -- Contraband candy has led to big trouble for an eighth-grade honors student in Connecticut.
Michael Sheridan was stripped of his title as class vice president, barred from attending an honors student dinner and suspended for a day after buying a bag of Skittles from a classmate.
School spokeswoman Catherine Sullivan-DeCarlo says the New Haven school system banned candy sales in 2003 as part of a districtwide school wellness policy.
Michael's suspension has been reduced from three days to one, but he has not been reinstated as class vice president.
He says he didn't realize his candy purchase was against the rules -- although he did notice the student selling the Skittles on February 26 was being secretive.
Isnt this a violation of your rights? I understand the state forbidding schools from selling this stuff in vending machines and cafeterias but how can they police an outside source? And I think I have seen kids with marijuana get less discipline. Did you find this post awesome? Yes |

I am soo sick of being told what is good for me and what I should be doing. If everyone worried about themself and not what everyone else was doing this would be a much better world.

Rep Power: 32 | | Actually, you guys are way behind with your outrage. For the same reason high schools can lock down classrooms and search lockers, they can do this. Once a child enters a school, according to our court system, they forfeit many rights we consider constitutional.
This allows schools to enforce:
a) dress code, i.e. uniform and appearance codes, which normally would be considered part of Free Speech.
b) search and seizure of private property without Probable Cause or Search Warrant
This has been challenged and shot down repeatedly. If you're a student, you're not an American according to the courts. Did you find this post awesome? Yes |

Then my first day i wanted a soda, and all they had in the vending machines was water, juice and vitamin water which has just as many calories anyway. Did you find this post awesome? Yes |

Rep Power: 25 | | Damn I had a friend who used to sell all kinds of shit in school. Started off selling candy then he went big time and basically monopolized the DVD business. Later, he started selling hot dogs and sodas at lunch. He would walk around with 2 book bags because the 2nd was full of shit he was selling. He'd even sell stuff to teachers. He ended up quiting on his own and as far as I know he never got in trouble. I actually almost got him to sell VCRs. We found out that he had like 8 VCRs in his attic. That would have been funny I can't imagine someone selling VCRs in school. Every now and then we still run into someone we haven't seen since HS and they still refer to him as the "Hot Dog Man!".

Yeah, that's called racism. | In my English class this teacher allowed girls to wear hats because they were fashion accessories but didnt allow guys to wear hats because theyre disrespectful...I was like you cant have your cake and eat it too! After hearing stories like this it makes me want to become a superintendent and start ripping up these rule books. Did you find this post awesome? Yes |

Rep Power: 19 | | Fuck kids. Don't talk about kids and constitutional rights in the same sentence. Kids don't have any rights, nor should they. They're fucking children. They're property of their parents, much like clothes, cars, or chattel. Ever heard the term emancipated minor? Know who else was emancipated? The slaves. Ergo, kids are no different than slaves. If they want "rights," they have to be emancipated. Otherwise, they'll do whatever the nearest adult tells them to do, including, but not limited to, shutting the fuck up, respecting adults, and not buying/selling skittles in school.

The only other regulations we had were girls skirts (they could not be too short, but some got away with it) and guys could not sleeveless shirts (like a basketball jersey) without something on underneath it, except for a gym class. I didn't understand that one, but whatever.
Since I left, they had the principle I had for another year, and this year they got a new one. A lot of people have left the school because they hated her, she installed over 60 cameras, and has just made life difficult for the school.
I was involved with the tech crew for our plays and musicals, and I still loan out some tools to them on occasion. Last year, I could just come and go in the side door by the main parking lot. Now, I've got to walk to the front of the building, have someone hassle me at a little table, and then register in the office. Royal pain in the ass, and something we shouldn't have to do.

That is why the little mongrels run around doing and acting however they want. A lot of parents are too busy defending their kids bad behavior than they are disciplining them for it. I knew that if I got in trouble at school that it would pale in comparison to the punishment I would recieve at home. Unfortunately most kids don't have that type of discipline anymore.
